Aeroflot is the common name for most of the civil aviation of the USSR, which included state–owned aviation enterprises and institutions throughout the country. The airline existed from February 25, 1932 to July 27, 1992 and operated regular flights to five continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. In 1971, the International Air Lines Transport Department was reorganized into the Central Directorate of International Air Services, which became the only organization in Aeroflot authorized to operate international commercial flights under the name Aeroflot – Soviet Airlines. In 1981, the Il-86 aircraft began to be used. By the end of 1991, the Central Directorate had 20 such aircraft, connecting Moscow with 38 cities in 29 countries of the world.
