Everyday when you open the newspaper, turn on the media, you will see how abuse of domestic workers taking place in the world.
Recently, there were 5 domestic workers murdered by their employers. It is a silent offense.
Why is that so?
Because domestic workers work alone. They stay alone. They leave their countries to go on work to feed their children. But then they get abused. Nobody cares and nobody can speak up for them.
That's so important that we call on all of you: all the governments, every federation, people presenting here today, that we must have a Convention with strong Recommendation. This Convention will add to Convention 189 and that will make us a strong weapon for domestic workers. But it must not be on paper only. Those Conventions must become a reality for domestic workers.
We cannot go on, we cannot allow as women that abuse of domestic workers. Yes we know there is violence in the world of work. But it is woman.
Therefore, we call on all of you: use your voices, support this Convention. Together we can say, our lives are better. Thank you very much!
