well hello coach awesome
A week and a half ago i met with wolf @iliftthereforeiam because i decided i needed some special attention on my squat form. My coaching over the years has been minimal to say the least and a hip injury has lead me to modify my squat form over time. Now mostly healed up i decided i needed some eyes on my squat.
i seriously didn’t know what to expect and i really tried to keep my expectations low. I’ve had so many bad pieces of advice thrown at me that I was just going to take what he said with a grain of salt. But no! all of a sudden i realized i was being coached by someone who actually knew what the fuck he was talking about. It was awesome and great and exciting.
The outcome was to widen my stance, turn out my toes and shove out my knees. Yes, i know, actually all pretty standard but i could immediately feel the difference. While yes, my adductors are definitely a weak link here, i have faith in his reassurance that the learning curve isnt as large as i fear it is and i should have those muscles up to par in a few months. Hitting depth was immediately no longer an issue, which i was really excited about. I was amazed how relieved my hips felt when i widened my stance, now that more of my leg muscles could be involved in the lift my hips dont have to do nearly as much work. I’m like over the moon happy to feel like i have a plan that can get me where i want while avoiding re-injury. Overall I think i was given some seriously personalized cues that really dealt with my specific form issues and totally have me on my way to a 300 lb squat. Good coaches are few and far between… he did a really good job not listening to what i said i thought i was doing wrong and instead identifying what needed to change .
So i’m starting back on a kind of speeded up linear progression, I started today with squats, press and power cleans because i didnt think after my stomach bug i’d have the sustained energy to deadlift.
I also decided not to cut to 125. I dont actually want to, and right now i really just want to focus on getting my numbers up for my next meet. my goals have been 265 squat, 140 bench, 305 deadlift but i dont think i’m going to be able to get there by july. Maybe my july meet goals will be 245 squat, 135 bench, 300 deadlift. game on!
