Betelgeuse: What’s something you can never forget about?
Centori regarded her petite daughter with a curious look as the question was uttered. “I suppose that is a fair question, dove. Though, I’m not sure the answer will be one you expect.”
She shifted in the chair with a slight amount of unease, knowing the answer almost instantly. “When I was younger, likely around your age, my parents were killed. They were both Farstriders, and our relations with the trolls was hostile at best. On a normal patrol, a small hunting party ambushed them, cutting them down.”
Her lips slipped into a frown, though she continued. “There are a lot of details in relation to their death that I will never forget, but the memory that most sticks out to me is when their friend, Captain Hilwind, came to tell me of what happened.”
She paused, that brief instance was long seared into her conscious. “They look he wore is something I will not soon forget. Once it was a time I could not think of, but it was that moment which set me on the path I am now.”
Centori offered a smile, though it was more for Illy’s comfort than her own. “Life is an uncertain thing, but we can’t let our grief control it.”
