We found a glittering surprise when we opened this volume from 1501/02. The book contains the Latin text of the biblical book of Ezekiel, along with commentary by the 13th century Dominican priest, Hugh of St. Cher.
The decorated letter here (the only one found in this volume) has a frame border which itself echoes the framing of the biblical text by its commentary.

Today's #YearOfHours is Free Library of Philadelphia Lewis E 93, book of hours, use of Paris. The style of the large miniatures and contents of the calendar suggest It was produced in Brittany. Several of the foliate borders contain Greek-inspired pseudo script.

Today's #YearOfHours is Ms. Codex 681, a book of hours written in France in the second half of the 15th century. A fragment with only one surviving miniature, although written in France it may be use of Sarum (i.e., Salisbury in England).

You don't often see a dragon with a goat's head, but that's what we have in the left margin of f. 213r, Ms. Codex 724, a 13th century Bible written in France. There was a drollery in the bottom margin, but it's been defaced #drollerydonnerstag

Ms. Codex 1577 contains stories and legends about Saint Francis and his disciples and followers, plus several other hagiographies and legends, in Italian. Written in northern Italy, possibly Venice or Ferrara, between 1460 and 1480.
