Between trying to keep the kids safe, chasing down forgotten secrets from her past, and worrying about what an evil dragon eyeball was doing to her husband, Rogue almost stayed exhausted. She fought it pretty well most of the time, copious amounts of coffee helped in that. But even the nigh invulnerable had their limits.

Just a few minutes of rest on the sofa had turned into her dozing off, blissfully unaware of how much time was passing. At least until she felt something pawing at her hand. A little startled, she opened her eyes to be met with wide blue eyes set in a furry face.

"Ivory," she smiled tiredly at the girl, "Somethin' wrong?"

“Should I be worried?” - @illusionbound

"Nah." Doug sat down next to the tiny mutant, currently curled up alone in the corner of her bed. They were in her room on Krakoa. Doug felt too big in the child-sized space, like an oversized intruder.

"There's nothing to worry about right now. But it's okay if you are."

Doug knew the peace wouldn't last forever. For mutants, there would always be another thing to be worried about someday. But right now, right here, on Krakoa, everything was alright.

For him, at least. Not so for her. She wasn't adapting well.

He picked up one of her stuffed animals and held it carefully in his lap. "Honestly? I'm worried pretty much all of the time."

He smiled, trying to show her that even though he worried, too, it didn't mean everything wasn't okay. She didn't like Krakoa, but that didn't mean she had anything to worry about. She had Gambit and Rouge. They would always keep her safe. "Some people, like us, are just used to being worried. And we get so used to being worried that we do it even when we don't have to. Does that make sense?"

That's sounds vaguely like a threat, or so she had mentioned, which made Scott stop to re-examine his own words. As a teacher, Scott was familiar with how he can communicate with children and Ivory was a little challenging. But he got down to her level nonetheless. " I'm sorry if that sounded that way. " The man lets out a small sigh.

" Just remember this is a school, we learn a lot even including how to control your powers and the students deal with simple school punishments if they're out of line. I doubt that's going to happen to you. You seem like a good kid with a good heart. Nothing to worry about though, all right? "

Doug didn't know much about Ivory except for her name. He had done a little bit of poking around, got the basics of her backstory, but she was still a stranger to him. All he really knew, to be honest, was that she seemed like someone who needed help.

Doug liked to help people. Especially on Krakoa, where he felt like it wasn't just a nice thing to do, it was his responsibility. A part of him felt like he had to personally make sure everyone was getting along on Krakoa. He helped make it, after all.

She didn't seem like she was doing all that well. She was hiding away, barely eating. Food seemed like a good way to break the ice. He was heartened when she accepted the gift.

He was crouching, as low to the ground as he could get. He was far back enough that he hoped she wouldn't be threatened. He moved just a little bit closer when she finished eating, but his every movement was slow and obviously telegraphed.

"Hi," he said in French, mirroring her choice of language. He smiled at her gently. "My name's Doug. You've been having a rough time on Krakoa, huh?"

That's literally her daughter. She loves all of her adopted children but can't help but feel like she understands Ivory a little more sometimes. Rogue experienced her own powers literally driving her crazy so she's very sympathetic to the issues Ivory has with hers.
