          when alberto had walked through the door, massimo had been forced to pause, staring at the young sea monster in obvious surprise, a bowl of trenette al pesto in his hand. he was bloody, covered in scratches and wounds, and staring up at massimo with a look that he could only describe as fearful -- yet accepting. massimo didn’t know what had happened to cause the injuries, though he was sure he would find out soon enough. no -- the injuries themselves concerned him, along with what alberto had to say next ---- a quiet assumption that massimo would force him away, turn him aside, cast him away as though he were NOTHING.  ---- per mille sardine.      the hurt was just radiating from him. 

     silently, massimo set down the bowl of pasta onto the table, and stepped forward towards the teen, moving to bend down on one knee, reaching his hand out to gently rest it against alberto’s shoulder. his gaze was serious, but there was a softness to his expression, too. he knew that alberto had been hurt greatly in the past - he didn’t know all the details, merely that the boy was alone, and held people at a distance, trying to protect himself, to keep himself from being emotionally harmed. he was prepared to be left alone again, after all.. that wasn’t the mindset of someone who had been through a pleasant childhood. 

    “ beto. i would never kick you out. this is your home now, prometto --- i don’t know what happened, but we’ll sort this out together.”      gently, his large hand moved to cup the back of alberto’s neck - comforting, gentle.      “ va bene, figlio. let’s get you cleaned up, and you can tell me what happened. i want to know who did this to you. ” 

       there were still many in portorosso who did not approve of seafolk living amongst town, but alberto was a child. and he doubted that another child could have done such significant damage to him. no. someone else had done this, and massimo would make sure he found out who. 

   nobody touched his children and got away with it.

         SEVERAL      QUESTIONS.         one   ,      how   did   he   know   ?      and   two   ,      WHAT   DID   HE   KNOW   ?         well   ,      the   SECOND   had   a   simple   answer         :         NOTHING.         HE      KNEW      ABSOLUTELY      NOTHING.         he      should      know      nothing.         but   the   mere   NAME   leaving   alberto’s   lips   left   an   uncontrollable   ,      furious   TREMBLE   crawling   up   his   spine.         and   here   came   the   THIRD   question      :         why   PRESENT   tense   ?         was   he   talking   to   ciccio   ?      dear   lord   ,      HE   BETTER   NOT   BE      ―――      but   if   he   was   ,      what   was   ciccio   TELLING   HIM   ?      his   fists   were   BALLED   ,      spinning   to   GLARE   right   at   alberto.

               ❝      SCUSA   .   .   ?      ❞         stern   ,      DRIPPING   with   agitation.         ❝      what   did   you   just   SAY   to   me         [   .   .   .   ]      ?      ❞         he   was   about   BAFFLED   enough   to   think   that   ,      maybe      ―      JUST   MAYBE      ―      alberto   had   misspoke.      or   perhaps   ercole   MISHEARD   him.

            there   is   LITTLE   ercole   can   do   to   stop   the   fisherman.      he   was   bigger   ,      STRONGER   ,      and   had   a   better   aim   than   ercole   could      EVER      DREAM      of   having.      he   watches   almost   HELPLESSLY   as   the   man   chucks   his   own   harpoon   at   alberto   ,      shimmering   scales   in   the   DUSK   light      ―――      SPLATTERED   with   his   blood   as   the   blade   digs   through   his   abdomen   at   a   LIGHTNING   speed.      he   and   ercole   stood   in   a   similar   SHOCK   at   the   event         [   .   .   .   ]         they   must   be   THINKING   the   same   thing   as   well.            no.         no      no      no      no.            THIS      CAN’T      BE      HAPPENING.

                  shortness   of      BREATH      ―      and   yet   it   quickens   ,      his   hands   TREMBLING   and   his   gut   WRENCHING.      ercole   was   seeing   RED.      he   would’ve   TURNED   AROUND   and      stabbed      this   fisherman   to   DEATH   had   he   a   less   sane   state   of   mind.         “      no.      ”         he   uttered   ,      CLENCHING   his   own   harpoon   so   tight   his   KNUCKLES   burned   and   whitened.         “      NO   !!      THAT’S   NOT   HOW   ――   I   WAS   SUPPOSED   TO   KILL   HIM   !      ”         he   screamed   ,      SO   LOUD   his   voice   couldn’t   help   but   CRACK.      tears   threatened   him   ,      his   rage   EXPLODING   to   the   surface   ,      each   inch   of   his   skin      TREMBLING      with   pure   ire.            (         THE      DOG      WHO      IS      SO      ANGRY      HE      CANNOT      MOVE   .         HE      CANNOT      EAT   .         HE      CANNOT      SLEEP   .         )

            he   SHUCKS   his   harpoon   into   the   sand   ,      marching   RIGHT   UP   to   the   boy   and   GRABBING   the      protruding      end      of   the   wood   with   BOTH   hands.      he   makes   eye   contact   ,      RED      RED      RED         [   .   .   .   ]         as   if   he   were   to   say         ‘      this   is   gonna   hurt.      ’            ercole   then   ,      ruthlessly   ,      YANKS      it   out         ―――         the   blade   comes   from   the      COMPLETE      OTHER      SIDE      of   alberto   and   through   his   body   ,      DRAGGING   skin   and   flesh   out   in   its   departure.      his   hands   SHOOK   with   a   rage   with   the   harpoon   in   his   hands   now   ,      SCREAMING   out   his   frustration   as   he      PLUNGES      the   harpoon   back   into   alberto.      he   hoped   that   this   would   FIX   the   issue         ――      BUT   IT   DOESN’T.         HE      DIDN’T      GET      THE      FIRST      HIT.         IT’S   NOT   HIS   KILL.      he   never   would   have   FATHOMED   he’d   ever   be   so   worked   up   over   killing   a   sea   monster   ,      but   there   were   TEARS   threatening   to   pool   from   his   eyes.

                     “      GRRAAHHG      ―      IT’S   NOT   FAIR   !      IT’S   NOT   FAIR   !      IT’S   NOT   FAIR   !         I      SHOULD   HAVE   BEEN   THE   ONE   TO   KILL   YOU   !      ”         with   his   hold   on   the   harpoon   BURROWED   into   the   boy   ,      he   PUSHES   him   into   the   SHORE   of   the   water   ,      watching   as   the   waves   SWEEP   over   the   sea   monster   and   CLEANSE   him   of   blood.      ercole   simply   LETS   GO   of   the   harpoon   ,      hands   SMACKING   over   his   face      ―      digits   CLUTCH   his   scalp.         “      YOU   WERE   MINE   !      YOU   WERE   SUPPOSED   TO   BE   MY   KILL   !         MINE      MINE      MINE      MINE      !         YOU   ―      ”         stomping   like   a   CHILD   ,      he’s   interrupted   by   a   CHOKE   ,      a   fury   induced   SOB   overcoming   him.      his   mind   was   swirling   with   EMOTIONS   he   can’t   handle   ,      an   OVERWHELMING   situation      crashing      down      onto   him.      his   hands   SLIDE   down   over   his   eyes   ,      PRESSING   against   his   face   as   he   quite   literally   WEEPS.

@ilmarimostri​.     /     vaguely plotted starter.

this world is  strange  ,  aqua thinks.  much different than any other she’s been to.  after all  ,  she didn’t look like  this  in any other world.  vibrantly colored scales ripple over her entire body  ,  so she’s aware she’s not human  ,  at least not  fully  .  it’s not the  worst  thing in the world  ,  though.  the ocean is beautiful  ,  there’s so much so do  ,  to  see  ,  aqua’s pretty sure she could spend the rest of her life just  exploring  .

that was the  plan  ,  really.  observation of the world and its people  (  or...  creatures  ,  in this case  )  ,  &  if needed  ,  to eliminate any lingering threats.  just because xehanort was gone didn’t mean the darkness was.  it’s all going to plan  ,  really.

or it  was  .  she shakes her head  ,  trying not to think too hard about what had happened  ,  instead pushing through the water just a bit faster now.  along the ocean floor  ,  something  shiny  catches her eyes  ,  &  she dives towards it  ,  webbed hands reaching out for it in slight  wonder  .

‘ wonder who could’ve dropped this. ’ 

she traces the edges with her fingers gently  ,  turning it over  &  over in her hands to try  &  figure out  what  exactly it could be.  it looks like some kind of  frame  ,  but before she can look too closely  ,  she spies something moving out of the corner of her eyes. 

‘ ...is someone there ?? ’
