These final three issue bring us back to the individual and especially the outsider after having visited the prehistoric, the mythic and the cosmic. The adventures of X-51 / Aaron Stack / Mister Machine / Machine Man, first in the 2001 comic series then in a dedicated title are Kirby’s take on the sci-fi concept of the thinking, feeling, and overpowering, robot/android alone in a world of people. It’s interesting that Kirby calls the reader in his editorials to consider how they would react to such a being in their midst.
