The ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC) is the largest academic challenge in computer vision, held annually to test state-of-the-art technology in image understanding. Participants in the competition include leading academic institutions and industry labs. Over the past years, the challenge has become one of the benchmarks to evaluate the progress of image classification.
In a public letter announced on May 19, 2015, ILSVRC organizers informed research community a incident that Baidu has “circumvented” their policy of allowing only 2 evaluations on the test set per week. According to ILSVRC, Baidu had submitted evaluation requests to test server more frequently than permitted by creating and using multiple ImageNet accounts.
Later on June 2, 2015 Baidu Heterogeneous Computing Team responded with a letter to ILSVRC community, “apologzied for this mistake”, says they are committed to the integrity of the scientific process.
