My final lil brain conjure before I go to bed is that this world is just so fucking cruel and is an absolute shitshow more than some of the time, but when I see some of you on the dash and I witness what you're going through and imagine how fucking tired you must be but you still get out of bed and somehow find the energy to carry on and write amazing, beautiful content, that shit gives me so much hope and inspiration.

Ocean, I don’t remember what I was doing the day that you died, but I remember the morning you left. I remember how you looked the last time I ever saw you, looking like a statue in the smoky orange haze of wildfire season, your own eyes shining like there was an inferno burning inside you too. You sat on top of the fence between our houses as you so often did when you were waiting for me to be brave enough to meet you halfway between home and the unknown. 

It was early but the world was already sweating, our broken neck of suburbia drenched in the wet mouth of late August, the tide of smoke washing in over the horizon line making the whole sun ripple and melt. Even the edges of our houses seemed to lose shape, devoted as all things were in summer to slipping closer into the likeness of a dream than any hard bone of reality. 

I knew what you were saying without having to hear it out loud. I knew what you wanted to hear me say too. But you have to understand, Ocean, between the two of us, you were the only one ever brave enough to face the truth and snap it in two between your teeth. 

So I closed the blinds and I went back to bed. And just like that, you were gone.
