Okay, so the two may or may not be mer royalty. I’ll never tell and neither will they
They do however enjoy going on excursions to the abandoned beach near the cove they live in
This is because the two are unabashedly people-watchers (which is how they met Virgil because they were making fun of the cute boy climbing over rocks)
The beach they go to is rarely frequented as it is out of the way and holds no like touristy stuff so that’s how the two get away with like actually being out in the open so much
During breaks college students come though so it’s not just them all the time out there (which they’re usually pretty careful about not accidentally revealing the whole mermaid thing in that case)
The two are pretty close, although they do have their moments of bickering
Remus is always looking for trouble, whether its causing mischief cutting fishing lines/nets or angering local wildlife (see the time Roman had to calm down a pod of dolphins Remus angered)
Yes the two can communicate with sea life, don’t @ me
Both are very curious about human things as most of their point of reference is pollution from the nearby more frequented beach
The two are also on the younger spectrum of mer people (they have an interesting aging system I have not worked out or fully explored but like generally its an exponential thing? So like probably grow like human pace for a bit till maybe when you hit like 50-ish then it exponentially slows down? If that makes sense?)
Roman is more interested in the culture of humans, especially the romanticism as he has people watched a few dates and doesn’t quite understand why humans put so much emphasis on such things, but he still finds them oddly endearing??? He wants to know more at the very least
So there’s a slight magic/fantasy element I’m going to play into with the two having slight morphing abilities as we’ve already seen with them being able to camouflage their markings and make themselves appear more human like on the top and mayhaps we will see more of that in the future??? (of course the two don’t really know how it works themselves as it’s more of a defense mechanism that sorta just goes on its own so y’know Grace has Ideas™)
Just a general mer thing/world building thing, Merfolk are omnivores and are very good foragers and hunters! (Roman and Remus are both very skilled at hunting, but only Remus is good at foraging (compared to Roman who just sorta gets distracted doing other things))
The gang is the first time that Roman and Remus have actually interacted with humans face to face, which ended up being on accident to be honest when Logan attempted the “full-immersion” option for getting over his fear of the ocean. It didn’t end well to say the least
Logan standing at the edge of the dock: I’m just gonna go for it.
Virgil sitting next to him, not having processed what Logan said: wha-
*cue Logan having already jumped off the dock, with Virgil quick to follow, knowing this was not going to end well*
It didn’t end well, as the two managed to jump practically on top of Remus and Roman who had just been happening to swim by the dock to see what the two were doing (totally not planning on eavesdropping)
