i swear down all long running murder mystery tv shows have to have:

- that one episode where the MC meets the person who trained them and proves them wrong and outdated somehow

- that one episode about racism which still handles racism in the police force very awkwardly

- some stupid gangland warfare episode (these are either the best eps or the worst ep in the series)

- that one episode about an (ex-)soldier gone rogue

- that one episode that’s about after-effects of the holocaust, inc Neo-Nazis who are usually not the actual murderers

- that one episode where they randomly discover a centuries old bog corpse and it’s somehow linked to the main murder

- several episodes that just blatantly violate police protocol etc etc
