I was selected for the 2025 edition of the @getxophoto image festival (Basque Country).
This year's focus was on the concept of REC. The abbreviation of the English word "record," which means to record and usually appears as a red circle on our screens, refers to documentation, memory, narratives about the past, and the image's role as a witness to reality. The relationship between image and record is a central debate in visual studies, one that has been explored by classics of photographic theory such as Walter Benjamin, Susan Sontag, and Georges Didi-Huberman. But what remains of this debate today in relation to contemporary technologies? What is the difference between accumulating archives and constructing a narrative? What is the future of the image—and of the memory built through visual documentation—in a world of extreme, immaterial, manipulable, and seemingly infinite REC?
"The struggle between different ways of using photography is not a struggle over truth, as if it were a given, but a struggle over ways of being with others." —Ariella Azoulay
It's worth mentioning that this is the first time my work has been featured in a photography festival.
