Deep Dream - Alper Süzgün
'All My Baskets Into One Egg'
17"x 24" color pencil and white ink on grey paper.
Paul Juno 2015.
*This is still a work in progress, but I felt compelled to stitch together four images to produce this. The story behind this image is this: My art studio resides overlooks the corner of 3rd and Los Angeles Street. This part of LA is called Wholesale Alley and is the cusp of the far more interesting Skid Row. From where I sit I see the real Los Angeles. Anyway on this street is a homeless community that I see every single day, only their homes are different and their antics are far crazier than I can describe. A few months back I got into the habit of drawing this scene as a warm up, seeing their encampment as a type of still life, artistic and raw in nature, and forever changing daily. One day I came in to the studio, grabbed my sketchbook and proceeded to draw whatever happened from noon to 12:50, and this is the hodge-podge long-exposure illustration of those sketches.
