Dean lay on the ground cursing himself. He should have brought Sam with him. Or at least told him where he was going. But Sam thought Dean was picking up a girl at a bar. Not going after what turned out to be seven werewolves. Normally, Dean could have handled it himself with no problem, but his gun had jammed and the wolves were on him before he could fix it. He tried to run, but blocked himself into a corner. It was a mistake that he knew better than to make and now he was paying for it. By the time he got the gun fixed, one of the wolves had torn open his stomach and he had collapsed on the floor, losing blood to the point where his vision was getting blurry as he shot each of the werewolves in the heart. And now he was laying in a pool of his own blood. His first instinct was to call Sam, but he was a six hour drive away. He wouldn't get there in time and it wasn't worth worrying his little brother with something he couldn't change. Dean fumbled at his phone, dialed Cas' number, and took a deep breath. This was for the best. Cas had the Blade and Dean needed it far away. He knew what he had done as a demon and he refused to let that happen again. Dean held the phone to his ear with a bloody hand and listened to it ring. "Dean?" Cas asked as he picked up. "What do you need?" "Where's the Blade?" Dean asked, grateful just to hear his voice. "In a safe location," Cas responded. "Dean, are you okay? You sound a little weird." "I'm fine, Cas," Dean tried to steady his voice. "Just need you to keep the Blade far away from me." "Of course. Is something going on?" Dean cleared his throat. It was difficult to breathe and he had to focus on Cas right now. "Nothing. It's just... Cas, I need you to look after Sam for me, okay? I need you. You... You're family to me. I love you." Cas sounded confused. "I love you too. You and Sam are my family. More than any of the other angels. I'll take care of Sam. Are you taking a trip or something?" "Or something. I've gotta go, Cas. Goodbye." "Bye Dean. I'll see you tomorrow." Dean hung up his phone and let it slip out of his hand to the floor. He took one last shuddering breath around the lump in his throat as a tear dripped down his face. He closed his eyes and let himself slip away.
