Hi! I love your writing and I was wondering if you could write about protective Paul with an established relationship?
Pairing: Paul Atreides X Female!Reader
Fandom/Franchise: Dune
Author's Notes/Triggers: Mild.
Paul Atreides pressed your palm to his face, breathing in your sickness. His eyes rolled open to see your warm, sleeping form beside him. His eyes dared not look away from how your wheezed in bed.
A healer stepped up behind the Duke carefully. His throat bobbed.
“My lord, it is not wise to linger at the bedside of the sick.” He advised.
“I will not move.” Paul simply answered. His hands caressed up and down your arm, holding it close to his chest. The slow movement meant more to calm him rather than you. “I gave my betrothed my word that I will be her constant, her foundation where she falters. Your incompetence keeps her here. If you had paid better attention, she would not rot in this bed and I would not risk my own health by being here.”
“My lord, it has only been a week.” The healer chose the wrong words.
Paul’s eyes immediately snapped to his. “A week? Oh. I see.” He nodded, rising from bed. “You do not take your duties seriously.”
“That’s not what I meant, my lord.”
“Yes, it is. Even if your words say otherwise.” He gestured to the empty room around him. “Where are her maids? Her hot water? Her sunlight? Her cold water and food? You stick her in a room as dark as shadow in a poor attempt to hide her true health away from me. Do you value your life so little?”
The healer shifted in his spot, masking his reaction with a hesitant face. “I value my life, my lord.”
The Duke stared at the healer until the healer shifted in his spot as if Paul’s gaze was so direct that it made people move without the use of his Voice. The healer started to open the windows. “I will gather what resources we have, my lord.”
“Good man.” Paul said calmly. Yet, his gaze seemed too heavy on the healer’s back.
“And there will be maids to stir her awake to bathe her.” The curtains pushed aside, revealing more of your physical state. The blotched skin your house tried to hide. The back of Paul’s fingers caressed over the irregular bumps on your skin. You were his whole purpose, an inspiration to his ambition.
To see you like this, weak and asleep due to the plague that had been spreading, it affected him more than he could ever admit to you. As more people filed into the bedchamber, Paul’s eyes never left your cheek. The plague made your skin red and angry, spidering across your face.
His finger traced it down past your jawline. “I will have the head of the man who did this to you. And if one of the gods deems it right to take you from me, I will ignite a war to end that god’s religion.”
