Ten Year Anniversary of ImagiNERDing!
Ten Year Anniversary of ImagiNERDing!
Ten Year Anniversary of ImagiNERDing! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been at the helm of ImagiNERding for over ten years. Sadly, I missed the official anniversary date on May 12. I can remember the moment when my younger brother, Andrew, returned from a family vacation at Walt Disney World and he wanted to start a blog about Disney. At the time, there were a handful of blogs and even fewer…

Imaginerding, Zootopia.
Zootopia is a smash hit at this point. It’s breaking records left and right and clearly there is a demand for it from audiences! So what better way than to capitalize on that than giving Zootopia it’s own land! As for why Zootopia over other properties I would say it comes down to 1. Need 2. Theme 3. Location as it fits all these three criteria perfectly. It’s no secret that Animal Kingdom is in the middle of a transformation from a half day park to a full one. And with the promise of Avatar Land on the horizon in 2017 it seems there is a lot to look forward too. But even with the new land I still feel Animal Kingdom is still missing out on things to do, especially for the little tykes! And if you look at Animal Kingdom's attraction lineup there isn’t a traditional dark ride that would seem excitable for the all ages crowd!
Zootopia fits the need for attractions especially aimed at youngins, it’s theme fits perfectly in Animal Kingdom’s mission statement and would go hand in hand with the rest of the park, and there is PRIME location for this land to be made right by Rafiki’s planet watch.
The land you see above is hidden from guest view on the train and is one of the large expansion pads over at Animal Kingdom. Realistically you could fit three lands in here but for now let’s just focus on one.
Using the red as the outline here you could have a WONDERFUL little zootopia land e ticket family dark ride and all! As for what the land would look like I don’t think that’s a difficult thing given how the movie gave such detail
Have giant skyscrapers looming over the land and other various buildings all forming the metropolis that is Zootopia. Now given that the film make it clear that entering is done through monorail I think it wouldn’t be all that hard to retheme the current train that leads to Rafiki’s planet to match the one from Zootopia. Doing so would give the land a real kinetic energy and authenticity making the only way in and out through monorail! The land could consist of one E ticket family dark ride, and perhaps 2 b/c ticket rides sprinkled throughout the land. But I think a major part of what would make this land work would be the kinetic energy of the city itself. Fill it with unique retail and dining options all teeming in the metro area! From the Elephant Ice cream shop which could feature JUMBO sized ice cream goods to other fun animal themed shops and eateries! For example even making a walk through area of little rodentia could even work as one of the extra b/c tickets of the land!
Idea’s like this are just the surface of what could be done with this area! As for the E ticket Attraction I think the family dark ride should be a cop search and rescue for a missing animal through Zootopia! However before we start on our journey the ride should have it’s queue/line somewhere that is fast, dangerous, exciting teeming with energy to get you ready for the attraction!
The Zootopia DMV. Seriously we should be waiting in line in front of these guys and they should be the ones to call us into the actual vehicle loading area. And as one of the Directors of the film so beautifully put it instead of a cast member pressing a button to start the ride I would hope it would be none other than
Flash Flash 100 yard dash. I think seeing him slowly hover over that green button as everyone in the ride vehicle is just itching for the ride to start would not only be hilarious but true to the film. As for the ride vehicle itself I think it’s pretty safe to say it would be Judy’s police car.
The ride could take us through all the various areas of Zootopia each with unique temperatures and animals all the while visiting some of the friends from the film, Mr Big, Nick and Judy, Mayor Lion Heart, Mrs Otterton, etc.
All culminating into a nice high speed chase finale which would bring us out into the ZPD upon solving the case. Where upon exiting everyone could be given honorary ZPD badges and while passing by Chief Bongo’s office where we could see his silhouette and hear him recite a few lines here and there. And before exiting the building we would be bid farewell by this lovable cheetah
As for entertainment options night there could be street dance parties hosted by Zootopia starling Gazelle and her dancers
Though the tigers may need to be put in area where nasty folks can’t reach em lol But the idea would be like the incredibles Dance Party only here it would make sense given she’s actually a performer. All in all I think there is a LOT to work with here when it comes to Zootopia and I think to not take advantage of that would be a real shame! If you liked this post please be sure to like and reblog and as always I’ll see you guys next time! Until then!
TRY EVERYTHING
Imaginerding, Mickey’s PhilharMagic redo.
This imaginerding is going to be a bit different instead of thinking on how a new idea can become a possible land or attraction I am going to focus on how we could improve one that already exists! So I absolutely adore Mickey’s PhilharMagic, it’s got heart, ambiance, and some real magic all put into one short film! It’s a great attraction for those that love the 90′s era of Disney films and one of the few places on property you can see those films and songs come to life! There is only one problem with the attraction, it’s dated itself horribly!
And it’s not because of the choice of films either. The fault here lies in one of it’s major it’s major selling points that got the attraction greenlit in the first place. And that is that the CGI animation for the attraction is incredibly stale in comparison to what the company can accomplish with that medium of art now!
While at the time innovative for 2003 the attraction could use an overhaul/redo when it comes to the actual film! So what should be done?
I say redo the animation and while we are at it switch the screens and projectors so that it’s 4k 3D and convert the film to digital! Give this attraction the shining/upgrade it deserves! But don’t just stop there why not install the star tours method of thinking to the ride by adding rotating new scenes that show up with the old ones? The way the attraction is set up from a narrative perspective each scene could be replaced by a new alternate scene and at the end of the day it wouldn’t hurt the story! So why not create a replay value by having every showing be different by including new list of musical numbers from
THE DISNEY REVIVAL! Throw in a let it go sequence or For the First time in forever reprise have the snow vortex with wind among the crowd.
Have an I see the light Sequence with the lanterns or lights shining onto the crowd. If they were smart they could somehow install a lantern rig that could come down during this sequence and make it seem like they are in the film itself, this scene could take advantage of the extended screen that is in Philharmagic.
Show Tiana in almost there and let us smell the food and drinks she is cooking!
Put donald in the middle of sugar rush and trying to get the hat which just happens to be on the lead racers vehicle all to the tune of Sugar rush!
This is just a quick list of ideas off the top of my head, other sequences from films not yet already in the reel could be put in. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio, Etc etc. They could even do what star tours did and include new scenes every time a new animated film comes out and proves classic (Moana could get a preview before the film comes out to help promote the film). Heck if they really wanted to be smart they could make films for this attraction that could be used as overlay’s. For example a villain overlay for the halloween season featuring only villain numbers from classic Disney Films.
The possibilities here are quite large this would be a huge effective way to create a giant pull towards an attraction that sadly never garners more than a 5 minute wait. Essentially it’s like this giant people eating attraction is going to waste, it’s time it reaches it’s full potential to help with capacity at the Magic Kingdom. The need for an upgrade of this nature is long overdue and I think now is a perfect time to upgrade the attraction.
Imaginerding, The Good Dinosaur.
So like I said previously Animal Kingdom has always had one rather large blemish on it’s rather perfect theming and design since it’s opening. And that is the carnival area known as Chester and Hester's Dinorama. See back when this park was getting made budgets had to be cut and dates had to be pushed up in order to still meet their opening date. So what kind of land can you make cheaply and quickly that can add some fluff rides and attractions for guests? A local fair setup.
Home to such classic Disney attractions like
That coaster that squishes you into your neighbor into a forced fusion of pain and vertigo.
and Triceratop dumbo. So what do we do with this land that can improve it? Pave over all of it and replace it with this guy and his beautiful world.
The good dinosaur is easily one of the most beautiful landscapes pixar or rather anyone has ever made. Nothing would be more cohesive with the rest of Animal Kingdom than creating this beautiful wilderness landscape and finally killing off the concrete roads that is the chester area once and for all.
Heck I am pretty sure the guys at pixar made this movie just to fit in with Animal Kingdom. That mountain above is known as clawtooth mountain in the film and serves as a pivotal anchor to the plot and the characters. You know what mountain Dinoland at Animal Kingdom is actually next to?
Everest. You can literally build Arlo’s farm and most of the wilderness from the film right on the other side of Everest where dinoland is and it would not only be great world building it would still remain organic to each land. In Asia that is Expedition Everest, in dinoland that is Clawtooth mountain which is perched beyond arlo’s home. It’s literally perfect. So as for how to do it? I would say redo and divide dinoland. Make one half the dino institute that is currently existent albeit more cleaned up (The area where Dinosaur is and the playground). Also keep dinosaur because that is still a fantastic eticket.
However when it comes to the Dinorama area, pave over it and kill it completely. Make that Arlo’s farm and the wilderness surrounding that. Put a D ticket dark ride for the kid’s where primeval whirl once stood. Make that about Arlo’s journey and include some wonderful scenes from the film, make it a ride the whole family can enjoy. That’s something that Animal Kingdom sorely needs even with the inclusion of the avatar stuff headed their way. They can even integrate the land with the new Rivers of light show. As it’s been stated Rivers of light shall be hosted by fireflies, you know what film has some fireflies?
The Good Dinosaur. Make their home in Dinoland and have certain area’s at night in that land contain these beautiful critters so they can come out and dazzle guests. As for other attractions I am sure they can make some cute b and c tickets based off the various dinos from the film. Think of Mater's jamboree but themed to the dinosaurs in the film. The possibilities here are strong.
Let’s bring this kind of beauty to Animal Kingdom,
and let’s kill this concrete nightmare off.
