Eggsy’s PoV
The air pressure is clear in my head when we land back at HQ, it’s become a norm for me. The mission was a success and I can’t wait to just relax after the debrief. Yet that didn’t come, not that it ever does because it’s always mission after mission and I haven’t perhaps relaxed and hung out with y/n or even seen mum in a while.
After my debrief with Merlin my phone started to ring from an unknown number, usually they’re just spam callers but in my gut it feels like this is important.
“Hello? Is this Gary Unwin? You’re listed as Y/N L/N’s emergency contact.” The person asks.
I nod but it takes a second for me to realise that they don’t know i’ve nodded. “This is him speaking.”
“I’m sorry but I regret to inform you Mr Unwin, but Miss L/N has been admitted here at Ravenscourt Park Hospital.” My breath gets caught in my throat and I feel my palms start to clam up.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can.” I state and simply hang up and I am in shock. That’s when Merlin exits the briefing room alongside Roxy and they look at me with concern.
“You alright Eggsy? You’re looking rather gaunt.”
“Y/N’s in hospital Merlin.”
“Oh,” he says and gives me a look of sympathy. “Well then, you better go and see her then and be there for her.” I only nod, tears starting to form in my eyes as I begin processing the information still. “Eggsy. Go. She’ll be okay I promise you. She’s a fighter.”
——
Seeing her lying on the bed with so little life in her is all that is needed for panic to set in. The heart rate monitor is steady however. “Mr Unwin?” a nurse questions and I just nod in response. “She’s just come from surgery and it was successful, it may be for a while that she wakes up. We can’t determine when sorry,” it all goes through one ear and out the other.
“Okay, thank you.” I say and just sit myself next to her bed and hold her hand. Merlin’s words ringing through my head she’s a fighter, I wonder where she got it from. A chuckle emits at my own offhand comment.
She’s always been stubborn, when it’s proving a point or standing up for someone or what is right. It seems to be her to the very last letter. Whether it be from something as silly to what colour that blooming dress was that went viral or her political opinions, some of which she ended up in fights with people in pubs about.
Even with all of the stubbornness in her or even in the stubbornness in the world, I can’t imagine her gone. Every important moment in my life and there she was, even if she was any shit, she’d find a way. I guess along the way I fell for her, the stupid way she pretty much corrects anything I say, the cute face she pulls when concentrating or the way when it’s something she’s passionate about her eyes light up. It always has and always will be Y/N.
——
Hours turn into days and days turn into two weeks and hope only seems to dwindle. They say she should be coming out within the next few days because it’s a rarity for this to even last this long. I don’t know but I just want her back.
I want the shenanigans. I want the car rides. I want the sing alongs to the radio. I want everything and more. To hear her laugh, to hold her in a hug so tight that she’s complaining to me. I just want her. Within the days of visiting she’s grown a collection of flowers and a teddy bear from Roxy, but I have decided once she’s awake I am going to tell her. I am going to tell Y/N that I like her, no. I love her.
Yet as I sit in the chair I receive a text from Merlin that I need to go on a mission and that he wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t needed. I send off a quick reply and start to stand up and that’s when two nurses come in the room. I kiss her on the head before leaving to the shop. There’s distant giggles coming from y/n’s room, obviously the nurses. I block it out and just go because the sooner this is done the sooner I can come back to her.
——
The mission lasted a few days, it was the usual gathering intel and I follow my routine of the prior two weeks of heading to the hospital and that’s when I receive the news. She’s awake and she’s gone home.
My hearts racing at the thought. She’s okay. She’s home. And before I know it I am in front of her door and a growing smile accompanies.
The door opens. “You’re okay!” I exclaim and go to hug her which she recoils from which causes a pang to go through me.
“Yeah, as much as someone who was attacked can I guess.” She says and hobbles back in leaving me to follow her in and she heads towards her bed.
“Are you okay?” I ask and she just nods but I can see her eyes begin to glass over. “Okay, now I know you’re not okay, talk to me Y/N.”
“I don’t know okay. One minute I’m walking from Amy’s and the next I know someone is attacking me and asking me about your job and then I was alone and it just felt so cold and it felt horrible, like I haven’t felt like that since my parents were screaming and shouting at me for dropping out of University. Yet I was on the verge of death. But the worst thing Eggsy, it was being there bleeding out in the middle of London alone. I don’t think I can be alone again if I’m honest.” I pull her into my side comfortingly and motion for her to carry on. “I realised that all of the best moment in my life are with you and I don’t know what I am going to do with myself if I don’t tell you that I love you Eggsy. I have done since we were kids and I mean in a romantic way, not a platonic way and if you leave i’ll understand but I had to say it.” She just said what I was going to literally tell her, no way this is actually real. That’s when I decide to just come out with it.
“Y/N, when I got the call from the hospital saying that you were there, I froze. I don’t freeze. I was with Merlin and Roxy and I broke down hearing that news because guess what, Y/N M/N L/N I am in love with you and I have been for years okay?” Next thing I know we’re kissing and pulling away and I can taste her lip balm easily. “God, I’ve waited years to do that.” I murmur.
“I can bet I have been waiting longer than you Eggs,” She smirks and cocks her brow at me. That’s when I try to lay me down. “Ah ah ah, nope mister. I’m not allowed to engage in any physical activity for six weeks until the stitches can be taken out.” She explains to which I huff at and decide to just cuddle her instead. “But this, I can get used to,” She mutters and lays her head on my chest. “I love you Eggsy.”
“I love you too Y/N” I say and relish in having her in my arms and I don’t plan to let her go anytime soon.
