Storytelling Plan 2/6

I’ve chosen to do a story which covers the Glasgow Locavore Supermarket. Locavore is a social enterprise which aims to expand a great local food system which I will try my best to show through my final images.

As seen below, It is a 2 minute drive from where I live which is why there is no hassle for me to get there.

Real Estate Plan 3/6

I was asked to do a real estate shoot which I took to my benefit and decided to use it as one of my plans. I have also asked one of my close friend and classmate @zoemckay to help me out with this. We will be shooting a 2 bedroom Flat which is based in Finnieston, Glasgow.

It is an 11 minute drive from my house. However, I have to take a detour to pick my friend up in-between.

My client’s name is Sarah, who was looking for a photographer that can take great images for a reasonable price which is why she approached me. (Not to mention the fact I’m a student too) I then discussed this with my friend whom agreed to work together.

Portfolio Printing Service

At first, I went to DeadlyDigital to print my 6 final images. However, they did not to C-type prints which is why I had to go with Loxley Colour. I was quite pleased with them and their quick delivery service.

As seen above, I chose Lustre as I personally like it and feel that the quality is much more sharp and clear. I also chose to add a colour profile to enhance my prints. I only ordered 5 prints as I had ordered 1 print previously to try out their service which is why the cost was less.

Portrait Studio Plan 4/6

I’ve decided to hold a portraiture shoot within one of the college studios as one of my 6 plans. I have asked 3 of my friends to come in and act as my models. I will come in earlier to set everything up and get all the equipment I need which is why I have asked them to come a bit later.

It is a 25 minute bus ride from the area Govanhill where my friends will take the bus from.

Macro Research/Plan 1/6

I have decided to shoot a green coloured theme for my final series of images for macro. I’ve thought of a good mixture of natural and man-made things so that my series of images are quite diverse. 

I’ve researched some images that I would like to emulate and try to work with below. 

Date: I will shoot my images over the course of 2-3 weeks in the College studio and on Location.

I took inspiration from this image and want to try and emulate something similar. I will either use a snoot or a soft box along with a black background. I will also add water droplets to the apple to so that it looks interesting as this image.

This Image caught my eye and I would like to recreate this image but with a few changes. Firstly, I want to use green pencils only and maybe not as many as in this image. Secondly, I will use a white background and set them up the same way they are in the image below. Finally, I felt that the lighting here was a bit too harsh so maybe I will use a softer light source for my image.

I will be shooting a leaf and capturing its details quite close, much like the image I’ve chosen and of course it will be green unlike the one in the image. I’m not sure of what lighting source I will use or if I will use natural or artificial light yet.

This will be quite hard to achieve but I would like to give it a go. I will have to get in much closer and I’m not sure if enough light would be let through for me to take a shot of the grass as it will be quite close up. I will also make use of a tripod as it will be shot outside and my images could get shaky.

Finally, I will shoot a green plant. It comes under the same category as the leaf but it will be shot differently and I will not give as much detail as the leaf.

Optimisation Workshop (Edit & Refine)

We worked in pairs and gave feedback on optimsation to each other on the 6 chosen images for the portfolio. We commented on what could be done to improve the image, if it would be better in black and white or colour, should it be cropped and if the exposure, contrast, saturation and highlights should be increased/decreased.

Post Production Plan

For this image I've decided go crop in tighter and slightly decrease the shadows on the left so that it does not blend in with the background so much. I am going to brighten up the eye by using the dodge tool within photoshop along with the spot healing brush tool for a quick skin retouch.

I will be separating the sitters hair and the backdrop a little just because I do not want it to look as blended as it is. I will also brighten the background for this cause. I am going to do a little bit of skin retouching along with using the dodge tool on the eyes to brighten them up a tad more.

As a suggestion from my classmates I will be cropping in tighter to the subject. I will add detail and contrast to the background to make it more interesting. Lastly, I will brighten up the hair on the model to seperate it more from the background. However, I may not need to do this if adding detail and contrast work well and do the job for me.

This was shot in monochrome which is why this is already black and white. I will be cropping in from the left side as I feel it's too much negative space which is unnecessary. I will add contrast and slightly increase the exposure for it to appear more detailed.

I won't be doing much to this image as I am happy with it's original form. I will add slight contrast and perhaps straighten it up a little.

This was shot on film which is why I cannot fix any mistakes with this. Although I will try to print this again and burn the right top edge to see the result. If my image turns out to be better I will be using that instead. If not, then I will just have to crop a little nit of right side and fix the exposure and colour temperature on lightroom.

Still Life Plan 6/6

For my Still Life shoot I will be shooting M&Ms which I will layout in a specific way and perhaps do something creative with them. I will be shooting in one of the college studios which means equipment won’t be a hassle for me. I may use a Macro lens to get close into the details but I am not so sure how it will turn out yet. I want my final shot to come out as colourful because It will go well with my portfolio as I already have a product shot with a range of colours.
