                    Whenever the subject of Iraq came up, as it did keep on doing through the Clinton years, I had no excuse for not knowing the following things: I knew that its one-party, one-leader state machine was modeled on the precedents of both National Socialism and Stalinism, to say nothing of Al Capone. I knew that its police force was searching for psychopathic killers and sadistic serial murderers, not in order to arrest them but to employ them.

Ellen walked with the mass of New Yorkers, stepping out of time with the others on the edge of the herd. As much as she hated being regular people, especially as many as the number in that group, she was to meet with another possible client a few blocks down. Unfortunately, the woman was stepping too close to the street and was quickly clipped by a bike messenger. "Shit," She breathed, stopping, though the cut barely hurt. Blood began to leak through onto the sleeve of her white button up, Ellen rolling her eyes at the sight. Seconds after, a tangerine glow radiated off her arm under the shirt and the blood flow stopped immediately. Warmth spread through her veins where the newly healed skin grew, Ellen not giving a second thought to who could have been watching.

Damp-no, soaked-clothing stuck to Savin's skin, itchy and stiff. Beads of water ran down his forehead, numb fingers pushed into the pockets of an overcoat in an attempt to warm them. At the entryway of Alrich's home (Savin didn't need to knock.) he stood, rain pitter-pattering incessantly from outside, sturdy walls seeming to muffle the noise quite a bit. Making no move to enter, seeing as he didn't want to dirty Killian's floors with tracks of slimy mud, Eric simply lifted a hand and patted his chest, ignoring the statement on a paranormal existence occupying his doorway. 

"You know, I miss the Christmases where I could wake up and take a deep breath of something that wasn't ocean water, and when I opened my eyes, I would see a roof, not the parts of a plane," reinserting his hand into the pocket of his coat, he finally gave his boss a genuine grin, "I don't know how you did it, Killian, but Extremis is really an amazing thing."

     Lost.

     Such a simple word but the meaning behind it was immense, bigger than the world itself. It told stories, it guided lives. It was the truth bottled up into consecutive letters. It was now the life of Eric Savin, wandering about, trying to learn how to live again. He was lost without Taggart. He was lost without Hansen.

     But most of all, he was lost without Killian.

     He had to find him again, bring purpose to his life once more. The only place he could go was the place where they planned to kill the President. He walked around, finding a spot to sit, closing his eyes off to the world.
