with a textbook splayed out in front of her, chiaki is doing everything she can to focus. it’s not easy, given her significant drawbacks, even if she’s medicated now... but she’s been taking notes and reading over them for the last half an hour, quizzing herself on the material to make sure she truly understands it, and rereading what she doesn’t understand.
all of that focus is ruined when she hears the popping of gum nearby. she scoots her chair back, looking around for who happens to be destroying the sanctity of the reserve course’s library, and there she is; kuzuryuu natsumi.
of course it’s her. she’s always causing trouble somehow. if she’s not getting into fights with sato in the middle of the classroom, she’s doing something else.
chiaki takes a deep breath, and lets it out. “kuzuryuu-san,” she says quietly, “can you please chew quieter?”

He had been so lost in his own thoughts that he almost crashed directly into the girl. He wasn’t exactly paying attention to his surroundings. It would be funny if it wasn’t sad. After all, a detective is supposed to be paying attention and noticing things. But then again, he isn’t exactly a real or good detective.
“Are you okay?” Not that he actually directly hit her but.... It was a close call. He felt pretty awful.
