i actually really like roger as a character ^^ i do definitely need to reread the book but from what i remember and ofc the fandom's influence roger has become one of my favorite characters
i think he is one of my favorites bc of how he presents himself as mysterious or almost unnerving/impulsive sometimes (with throwing rocks at the littluns for pretty much no reason?) but i may also be misinterpreting his character TwT i would love to learn more tho and how other people feel abt him !!
one of my fav things about jack till this day is his face paint. split in two, red and white. one is for alleged (or expected) innocence, the other is for raw emotion and of course, thirst for power. and finally the black line, not straight at all, at least I imagine it to look shaky and irregular. just like his illusions of being in full control over this two separate parts of him
in the recent series they did really cool one for roger as well. one big red spot around his nose and cheeks so he looks like a predator who already spilled the blood of their prey and soon to devour it. and the white all over red keeping it preserved. just like he can go to being all “innocent” again once the blood is gone.

OKAY OKAY SO where the title came from was literally a URETHRA 🤓☝️💡 moment bc initially i literally had NO idea what to name this 😭 like my first thought was like sum to do with rocks like "rock it over" or sum and obviously that was mid as hell BUT THEN i remembered that part in ch12 where samneric were talking to ralph and they were like "you don't know roger... HE'S A TERROR!!!!" and i was like YES. THIS IS THE ONE. IMA CALL IT TERROR NOW. and like that, i had an easier time coming up with peak lyrics for roger. YAYAYAYYYYY
in the instrumental breaks, i did a bunch of remixing my voice and bitcrushing it just bc it sounded cool. yk that maretu type shi 😋🔥
i wanted basically the orchestra vibe but also a skrillex type beat (I KNOW MY SKILLS ARE WAY FAR OFF FROM WHATEVA SKRILLEX DOES WITH MUSIC BUT LIKE I JUST WANTED THE VIBE YK) bc like we all know he hunted pigs, killed simon, killed piggy... but what most ppl forget is that he was also a choir boy, following orders and looking up to the only authority figure he trusts (jackieboyoooo). and you know when the music fades out in the end? that isn't really a sign of roger's madness ending, but rather subsiding temporarily until the people at home trigger it back out again. of course, he would be at home, so he'd hide his intrusive thoughts unlike on the island, but i imagine he still suffers from being tormented with these thoughts post-island.
now for lyrics!!! lyrics lyrics lyricssss oh boy i ATE with the lyricism this time its genuinely so much better compared to my last song... ok starting off with the first verse and first pre-chorus, we start off with what roger's feeling. he's by jack's side, discovering the thrill of hunting for the first time. but he sticks to jack's orders because in his eyes, they love each other. now you can take that sentence in any which way, form, or fashion, the truth of the matter is that he's depending on basically the worst person on the island. and he's literally on a road to mental descent because moving forward, jack and his hunters start hunting and handling people in increasingly messed up ways. toxic jager codependency anyone?? also this is why i added a little merrilomaniac motif in the melody. yey!!
but then in every chorus, the reality hits. what does jack REALLY see roger as? just his assistant? another ordinary choir member? another mouth to feed? or just a boy he can use as an intimidation tactic? a terror boy? EYEYEAAAAAAAHHH
second verse and pre-chorus time... now we all know how people have been describing roger when they first read the book. some people, GROWN PPL btw, call him "sadistic". which is crazy bc roger is like 10 and he doesn't understand right and wrong. and even if he did, he doesn't understand the consequences of a huge crime, like murder. and roger may be the one to sharpen a stick at both ends, but to people who don't understand the book, roger might BE that stick. they're always like "ugh we can't leave kids alone on an island or else they'd turn on each other and kill each other!!" that's not the point. remember, roger and the other boys grew up trying to survive a WAR. they're surrounded by violence every day. whenever i was left home alone as a kid, my first instinct wasn't to go out and kill people. children have to LEARN hate and violence in order to actually practice it. and now we gotta realize yk, in another life where roger didn't grow up in a war, he would've gotten along with people more. even if he's still quiet, he wouldn't have that instinct to hurt people for fun.
the bridge and final chorus. i imagine that one day, roger would look back on this incident and realize that he's hurt and killed so many people when he has so much freedom. imagine their families when they hear about what he did. although roger's (theoretical) home life and war environment shaped him into the person he is now, HE has to be the one to change these behaviors and actually be a better person now. but he will always get those glares from other people, only seeing him as this beast that kills. and i can only imagine that the perspectives and assumptions that other people hold against him, they would get internalized in his mind, weighing down on his heart and forcing him to believe that he deserves to be punished. Why was he made to hurt and feel hurt? Why can't he just be a good person? Is that really him? Was he always born to be evil?
lowk i hold a personal connection to this song. somehow, i almost cried making this song more often compared to it's only us surprisingly? just the fact that i've made so many mistakes, and ive been internalizing the thought that nobody would love me even in my darkest moments because they'd think i'm a defective human being. and despite roger being my least favorite main boy, i can't help but sympathize with him, just for a little bit. i can't even hate him after making this song bro, and i used to be the biggest roger hater too. that's how crazy it was.
And I think a better question to ask ourselves is, why can't we make a better example for the youth to follow instead of surrounding them with bloodshed and violence? Why can't we prevent them from thinking that cruelty is okay? Of course, we can't prevent evil from happening 100%, but can't we at least do the best we can?
And that part where he says "my sins and sorrows are overdue", it could mean a lot of things, but i went for something like... it's too late to take back what roger has done. you can't bring the dead back to life. you can't undo the wounds those boys have suffered. but at the same time, it was bound to happen, especially in a cruel, unforgiving world like this. you're going to find people who make bad decisions. some regret their mistakes, some don't. but how will they move forward? how are they going to do better?
