late night confessions - sydney adamu
・❥・sydney adamu x fem reader !
The Bear had managed to take everything out of you. As it had at the end of every long work week.
But every Friday night, you always had something to look forward to.
That something was Sydney.
Since joining the restaurant, you have become particularly close to her. While you were good friends with your other co-workers, there was something different about your bond with Sydney.
And the more you thought about that difference, the more it drove you mad.
It was strictly friendly, you told yourself. Besides, you were co-workers. And you knew better than to mix romance with business.
But that didn't mean those thoughts didn't linger in the back of your mind.
The subtle touches, the long eye contact across the kitchen, the way you'd come to each other to taste each other's food before anyone else could.
It was always in your mind.
The two of you sat at your kitchen counter, both nursing glasses of red wine. It was therapy in a way. You'd both ramble on about your weeks and how exhausted you were.
"So," she began, swirling her wine in her glass. "What else has been going on in your life?"
You sigh and set your glass down. "Honestly? Not much. I did go out the other night, though."
She lifts her brows at that, watching you over the rim of her glass.
"Went to a nice oyster bar downtown, had a few drinks."
She swallows before talking. "Who with? If you don't mind me asking..."
"One of my friends, Julian."
The mention of a guy's name sent a pang through Sydney's body. Was she...jealous? No. It was just the wine, she told herself internally.
"Just you and Julian then?"
"Mhm," you hum in response.
She nods and takes another sip, which turns into a big gulp. After finishing her wine, she sets the empty glass down on the counter.
"Sounds romantic."
You set your glass down with a chuckle. "Oh, no. It wasn't."
She watches as you rub a hand over the back of your neck, and the way your cheeks slightly flush.
"I'm not exactly interested in his kind..." you explain carefully.
She feels herself almost relax at your words, like a two-ton weight was lifted off her shoulders. But she plays off her relief with a nonchalant facade.
"What exactly does 'his kind' mean?"
"That...I like girls. Strictly," you add.
Those five words have Sydney's heart skipping a beat, and it's embarrassing, honestly. To keep her cool, she leans forward, folding her arms against the cool granite of the counter.
"You're a lesbian?"
"Yeah," you reply, followed by a chuckle.
A beat of silence falls between you two. Not exactly awkward, but it gives both of you time to digest what's just happened.
"It's crazy," you start. "I mean, we've been working together for months and-" You cut yourself off with a gasp. "Oh my God! Did you think I was straight?!"
She chuckles at your change in tone, the way you seemed to be offended by her thinking. "In my defense, you never told me otherwise."
"Fair point, but that's like...an insult," you joke.
You two fall into a fit of laughter.
"I'm not a mind reader, you know."
"I thought I looked gay enough," you quip.
Her dark eyes run along your body, taking in your appearance like she'd done many times before. But now that she has an actual reason to, she does see how you'd look anything but straight.
You hold your hands out, showing off your rings. "I mean, come on, what straight girl keeps rings on only her two middle fingers?"
She focuses on the silver that adorns your fingers, and the placement is enough to make her shift in her seat.
"Alright, fine. That is a bit of a dead giveaway."
You retract your hands with a chuckle and lean back in your seat. "So, since we're coming out tonight, what about you?"
She mirrors your position, leaning back in her chair. "What about me?" she asks, trying not to seem eager about her answer.
"Are you...a lady kisser?"
The way you phrased it makes her laugh. Through her laughing fit, she pretends to think, though the answer is on the tip of her tongue.
"Yeah, 'lady kisser' sounds about right."
"Yeah, I figured," you reply matter-of-factly.
The certainty in your response makes her stomach churn, but she plays it off by teasing you. "And how'd you come to that conclusion?"
You shrug. "You just look like you'd be."
A wide grin spreads across her lips at your lack of explanation. And as much as she wants you to elaborate, she doesn't ask you to.
"You're such a smartass."
Though those words are meant to be a dig at you, you can't help the way your heart flutters or the way your stomach fills up with butterflies. You'd never heard those words spoken so sweetly.
Or maybe it's just the way her lips move. The way they tug up at the corners, like she's trying to suppress a smile.
She sees the way your eyes linger on her lips, and it makes her nervous. It fills the room with a thick tension, one she's itching to cut through.
Involuntarily, she moves in closer, her leg brushing against yours. You don't miss the subtle touch, it's impossible with the way it sends a jolt through your body.
You find yourself leaning in, and with a spontaneous confidence, you interlock her pinkies with yours. The feeling of her skin is perfect, like silk against your own.
She's waited for this moment. Waited for you to touch her in such an intimate way. Waited for your eyes to linger on her lips longer than they needed to.
The two of you continue to inch closer, almost in slow motion. Like you can't wait to get closer, but you want to savor the moment and all of its intensity.
With a hesitant hand, Sydney cups your jaw. It makes your heart beat faster, almost loud enough for her to hear.
"Syd..." you whisper.
Her eyes, which swirl with a mix of emotion, flicker up to meet yours. She tries to read you through your eyes, trying to decipher what your dilated pupils mean. But, she won't do anything without consent.
"Yeah?" she whispers back.
"I want you to kiss me."
Your whispered words are like gasoline, making the fire within her stomach burn brighter, more intensely.
Using her grip on your jaw, she leans in closer, finally pressing her lips to yours. Her lips slot perfectly against yours, like they were meant to be there.
Your hand finds the side of her neck, gently grasping at the skin. You use it to move in closer, your legs fully touching. She smiles at the contact, and it feels like heaven against your lips.
When you pull away and see Sydney's smile, it takes your breath away. She looks so blissful, so beautiful with her slightly kiss-bitten lips.
"What?" she asks sheepishly.
"You look perfect," you reply softly.
She can't help herself as she leans back in, pressing her lips to yours with more fervor. You respond instantly, cupping her face with both of your hands.
The kiss grows in intensity, and Sydney's halfway off her stool. Her hands roam down your body, gripping your thighs. When she hears you softly moan into her mouth, she takes it as a sign to keep going.
But you pull away from the kiss as her fingers toy with the waistband of your pants. Your breath comes out in soft pants as your hands fall from her face.
At the sudden pull away, she feels her blood run cold, like she's overstepped. "I'm sorry, I didn't-
You cut her off with a squeeze of her hand, bringing it into your lap. "Sydney, you didn't do anything."
She visibly relaxes, and her heart stops pounding against her chest.
"I just want it to be proper. Wine and dine, y'know?"
Sydney chuckles. "Yeah, yeah. I'd like that," she replies softly.
You bring her hand up and brush your lips against her knuckles, not missing the way she heats up under your touch. "Yeah, you'll let me take you out?"
"I would," she replied with a smile.
