Got a nice surprise in the post today! As a practitioner of martial arts for about 20 years now, 15 in this discipline, this lockdown has been especially difficult. It’s not only the practical skills and the physicality of martial arts that I miss, it’s interacting with my peers, who are some of my dearest friends that I miss the most. This book, compiled by Pauline Walmsley and Billy Haggerty pulls together stories about the Shoto Budo Organisation from a wide range of its members. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it so far and it is of some comfort to read familiar stories from my friends. I contributed 3 stories to the book: “Mixed Emotions”, “Girl Power” and “The Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”. The last two in particular were very personal to me as a person, and I hope that they reflect how martial arts have formed me into the person I am today, and stand as a testament as to how much the members of Shoto Budo contributed to making me...me! The book is available now on Amazon and available directly from the editors.
