Ida--
You said "twinkle twinkle little star" the day I met you. I thought I was hearing things--but that was you, wasn't it? Your voice. I never thought that the girl that I met that day would be so dear to me now. You're my reason to keep going. My special star. My special someone.
I'm not the most perfect bloke to be with--I can't give you everything but I can try. I know that I do love you. And I wonder if that's enough... If knowing that is enough. I hope you'll stay with me, Ida. I hope you'll stay with me as my star... Everyone has a star they follow to get back home. I hope you'll stay as my star to always lead me back.
Merry Christmas, Ida. Will you stay with me and be mine?

As the teardrop splashed down with a light thunk on the paper, the ink smeared a little within the droplet and she lifted her head, her lips in a gentle half-smile that made it easier to think of what she'd made him -- What she'd feared he would rebuke. He loved her, just as she loved him. The blonde glanced down again, the band of the ring between her forefinger and thumb's pads and being rolled easily. With another tiny tear rolling down her cheek, she slipped the band onto her left ring finger, twisting it just a little once it was on to be sure it was there. She was his, and he loved her.
