oh fucking hell quite a lot. back in my day: 

everyone had a default tumblr theme, nothing fancy whatsoever

descriptions contained EITHER a short description of their character (and there was no ‘about’ page) OR the character themselves IC’ly welcoming you to the blog followed by--

[[Hello! This is my blog for ________. My name is Zee and I am from (timezone) and I am (age)]]

people still used asterisks to denote actions instead of writing prose style *shakes my head* 

first person was a lot more common 

nobody used icons, but what we DID use when we felt fancy was literally any reaction gif that was appropriate. not of your fc (there were no fcs). 

sometimes the dialogue was replaced with whatever caption was on the gif too, bc that was handy, even though that makes no sense

tags? what are tags??? 

every thread has a title and your title has the urls of both rpers in it too 

promos flat out didnt exist you just sort of. started posting and looking for other blogs in the tags

it was wild.
