imnotsurprisedbitch replied to your post:sigh i’m sad abot the fact that Emma Watson’s...
What are the flaws?
she presents things as though men were never "invited" to be feminist and women make them feel unwelcome to be part of the feminist movement
her words perpetuate the gender binary - women and men and that's it; what about genderqueer people, people who are in a completely different place on the gender spectrum?
she implies that men should care about feminism because they, too, suffer because of unfair expectations and stereotypes and also because women are their mothers, sisters, daughters w/e which puts men in the spotlight again
the #heforshe thing is prblematic too because...well...it does get men involved but the pronouns man. again, what about non-binary people?
please don't get me wrong - i think her speech was wonderful. she raised so many great points, she has started a great thing and will reach a lot of people, this IS a start for a lot of people!! she acknowledged the fact that she is privileged, she acknowledged the fact that men don't have it perfect BUT --- she still perpetuates a whole bunch of things that need to change...and i really hope in the future she will address them more
