Hi again! I hope you and CW are doing great! Much love to both of you! <3
I wanted to ask about Seer or at least people who have somewhat the same magical abilities like them. We know that there are flashes of the future that happen at random, and some of those flashes are bad events. My question is, if people who saw glimpses of the future were to become obsessed with preventing a sequence of bad events, would that negatively impact the future more? If so, does SIGHT or whoever from the Bureau punish those who do? Or is it encouraged to prevent bad events? Seems like a really heavy responsibility 😓
If a Seer were to become obsessed with avoiding every negative future they see, there could absolutely be negative consequences. There’s the whole paradox that the more you fight to avoid one future you only make it all the more certain and that’s what SIGHT tries its best to avoid. The Seer would be less likely to be punished by SIGHT and more likely be required to take counseling to alleviate the guilt of responsibility. Bad things happen every day and even if you see it coming, that doesn’t mean it is on your shoulders alone to bare the weight of it, which SIGHT tries to instill during a Seer’s training. It’s better to plan for recovery than prevention in matters of fate, and it’s a bitter pill for a lot of Seers to swallow. Nearly 35% of the Bureau’s budget pertaining to mental health is used by SIGHT for this very reason
