Just The Way You Are

Owen stepped out into his backyard and looked at his setup he wasn’t sure if it was a good Valentines date but he did his best considering it was his first. He took a breath and looked at his watch she should be receiving the first note any second and she was a smart girl so he gave her 40 mins before she made her way to his place. He was slightly nervous and a little fidgety so he walked over to the table and took a seat. He felt something small curl around his leg, he looked down and smiled as he heard the kitten purr as it moved around his leg. He picked her up and set her down on his lap this was the prize to Imogen’s scavenger hunt, she liked cats, he picked one out that he thought would best fit her. “You sweetheart better be all that you’re worth” he smiled when the kitten licked his hand in response “Well if she doesn’t like you then I’ll keep you, you’ve grown on me.” 

After 20 mins Owen set the kitten down on the grass and walked over to the grill to take a peek at the steaks, he had purchased Kobe beef and was grilling it for their dinner, he turned them over before closing the lid again. It wouldn’t be long before Imogen arrived and on his end everything seemed to be going smoothly. The vegetables and dessert were already on the table all that was left were the steaks. The kitten laid down on top of his shoes and he smirked gently pushing her away, he reached into his pocket and felt the smooth surface of the black box. He swallowed and wondered if it was a bad idea, in a way he would be anchoring himself and he wasn’t sure if he was ready for that kind of commitment, he shrugged away his worries and leaned back in his chair until finally he heard his front door open. He quickly stood up and picked up the kitten holding her behind his back, he stood up straight and waited until he saw her walk out into the backyard. He smiled “Hey. Now that you won the scavenger hunt it’s time I reveal your prize.” He gently moved his hand and held the small kitten in his hands “She doesn’t have a name yet. You can name her whatever you want, if you want her?”
