Eddie possessed a temper that's hard to control. But, his brains were still there. & he knew it'd be foolish to assault such a ' MONARCH '. Even if he wanted to beat the bastard's face in until it's impossible to identify.

Knowing violence & mad emotions gets him nowhere, he attempted to calm himself down. First, relaxing his muscles, & breathing slow through his nostrils.

She always stood by the wall when she came to him like this, feeling too exposed in the centre of the room, too much like a little girl come to beg forgiveness for shattering a vase, a bad grade, a schoolyard fight. Her own father had never paid any attention to such things, but as always Mary's mind conjured up the cowed, quiet man if only in contrast to the one in front of her now. She pressed her fingertips to the wood panelling at her back, feeling the groove, the thin, almost sharp slice between the boards.

"It was a ransom job." She watched his face with closed off, solemn eyes. Some internal door slammed shut. It was one thing to claim sanctuary as an act of manipulation, and another to need it like this. "Supposed to be simple, money changes hand, kid goes home, over in a day. But the kid—" A bullet in the dark, a father's scream, the screech of tyres. Mary pursed her lips and continued.

"Someone fucked up, and the kid died." There was a pause. Just this would have been nothing.

Gotham killed its children every day without a second thought, in a million different ways.

"The mother was Lou Maroni's great-niece."

The mention of extra money in her usual rate caught her attention further. Her current position on the chair she’s sitting on has a relaxed a bit, leaning her back further against the plush leather material.

This was not the environment that Herbert was used to. Laboratories, classrooms, hospitals, those were far more comfortable than any sort of club. But the information he'd received was just... far too tempting to pass up. The value it could have to his research was astronomical. Perhaps someone who was living and dead was the answer to perfect his Re-Agent.

He was close. He just needed to find out the one thing he was missing.

He softly cleared his throat before speaking to who he assumed were the keepers to 'The Roman'.

The conversation wasn't a threat to him and the explanation comes easy without Jason having to search in his mind. ❝ I don't think I'll ever be happy. I like my freedom. ❞ And a place to come home to that was trapping. The manor is suffocating when he returns for short visits. Any place he stayed for too long he comes to hate. On his own, he came and went as he pleased. Alone on his own wishes for as long as he desired. There was a deep peace in being anonymous and having his own place which he chose to disclose only when he wanted.
