A Song A Day #120 - To be honest, I know nothing about BRS. This was the only record of theirs I owned. I bought it for this Dubtribe remix. I have no memory of how this compares to the original version. I just almost never listened to it. It was just one of those things. I made my choice and this was it.
The baseline and the dubbed out drumming dig deep into my brain. The spacey effects just enhance the key elements. I got into Dubtribe when I lived in San Francisco in the early 90s. Dubtribe was just starting up when we got into House Music and the San Fran scene. I think the first time my girlfriend and I heard them live was at a rent party they threw at the their warehouse loft somewhere South of Market. There were a couple of other live acts at the time playing electronic dance music, but Dubtibe was by far the most active.
They started their Imperial Dub label in the late 90s after we had moved to Philly. I at least checked out every available release I got my hands on and bought most of them. This came out in 2000 and is one of my favorites. I obsessed over it for a while. I even remember the record i would usually mix with it (Tortured Soul’s Fall in Love). I can’t say I recall that about too many other records.
This one’s a real beauty. Enjoy --
