Can the birth control implant be seen or detected in a metal detector?

Someone asked us: 

Would my implanon be seened or questioned at the airport? Would it beep under security checks? I’m scared since my parents don’t know about it :( Thank you so much!

Nope! Airport security checks won’t show your birth control implant (AKA Nexplanon). There’s also an older version called Implanon. Most of the time you can’t even see the implant under your skin, so nobody knows you have it unless you tell them or you’re feeling around for it. 

Implants are a “set-it-and-forget-it” kind of birth control, meaning once it’s in your arm, you barely have to think about it until it expires or you have it taken out. They can last up to five years and are 99% effective. The tiny, thin rod is about the size of a matchstick and releases the hormone progestin into your body to prevent you from getting pregnant.

Birth Control Update

After going off birth control 2 months ago, I’ve decided to have a new implant put in again.

Overall, I didn’t see much of a change weight wise. I did see a increased intensity in my mood leading up to my period. I decided that I wouldn’t be able to work during my period while off birth control or if I switched to Paragard (copper IUD) since it’s known to make your period worse than usual while on it. 

This means going back to using the implant (Nexplanon/Implanon). 

I don’t regret going off birth control for a couple months...it was good to give my body a little break.

Since things are rocky at my vanilla job right now, I went ahead and scheduled my appointment since my health insurance covers it completely.

day 24- the bleeding stopped!!

i bled for about 4 days and by the end of the 4th day it stopped , i decided to cautiously go to bed with just a liner and hoped for the best

woke up with no bleeding! and none has happened since i woke up too

i gotta say, while the bleeding made me feel tired af , it was still nice to not be super crampy before it had started like i would always get on the pills , maybe having an irregular period might work to my advantage ? because i swear because the pills regulated me to the T , there mustve been something with that which made me have PMS symptoms like crazy

it technically hasnt been 1 month on nexplanon , it would be 5 more days till it is, but it feels safe to say now that this bleeding stopped pretty quickly in terms of breakthrough bleeding ( was worried it would go on for over a week like it was on my first month of pills) , it went well

side effects ive noticed that might potentially be nexplanon:

-headaches a little more easily- nothing painful or interrupting

- maybe a bit more moody- but im a college student getting closer to the end of my first semester so 👀📝 i have alot of shit to get done so im stressing a bit

- the bleeding was an obvious one- in total for this month i bled 7 days, the 3 days of bleeding about one week after my insert ( expected it ) and the 4 days of bleeding that happened 11 days after the first bleeding ended ( alright,,, didnt expect that) .

so overall? not that bad. off birth control i used to bleed 6-7 days a month , and to not bleed that much in a row this time around gave me relief at least.

i did not get any PMS like symptoms when i bled again, that was amazing , it felt like such a relief . i felt good, and i think so far this is working better for me than isibloom . i dont feel my hormones rising and falling like it did before , it feels steady .

not sure what the future will be like in terms of bleeding, but whatever happens , im gonna make it work out

Finally, I received access to BC (birth control) that doesn't require any special care, doesn't need me to take daily pills, lasts for 4 years, and is easy to access. It took about 30 minutes from walking in to Planned Parenthood to walking out, the actual procedure took maybe 3 minutes. It was easy, relatively painless aside from slight pressure, and I felt respected and heard the whole time. This is one of the few methods that are almost impossible to tamper with, very few associated risks, and I don't need to have to worry about remembering anything or checking the strings (IUD specific). I am so happy with my decision, and my experience at Planned Parenthood. Seriously, if anyone has questions about the process feel free to ask me.
