some concept lore for my camp camp x poppy playtime au

in this au max was given up by his parents and sent to the playcare orphanage, nikkis mom lost custody of Nikki due to being too unhealthy and unstable to properly care for her, she was spread around a bit, nobody really wanting to keep her so she eventually also ended up in the play care orphanage. Neil actually had parents, his father wanting to seem cooler to his son would often bring him to see his work, this was allowed because not only it is a toy company but because Elliot Ludwig would also have his own daughter at the factory because of his love of family.

In this au david is a kids counselor, meant to help the anxious and troublesome kids at the orphanages feel better. He's not really aware that the living toys are mutilated children, thinking more that theyre either super intelligent ai or some miracle the company managed to create, hes aware that theres scientists but thats about it.

Max, being a problem child was often sent to talk with david, who tried his best to ease maxs worries and make him happy. Despite being given up max is still adamant his parents loved him. He gets in fights with other kids when they bring up the fact hes an orphan with living parents that wanted to get rid of him.

At some point max Nikki amd Neil become friends and david starts to notice this from how often maxs talks about them and seeing them together in the playcare. David after talking to max so much actually grows really attached to the boy, so seeing him so happy with his friends gives him the idea to recommend a trio toy set be made of them "subtly" this wasnt very subtle.

The toys gimmick is that they have plastic backs with patterns that project shapes on walls or ceilings, have voiceboxs installed with some songs and unique character quotes, the concept name for this line is star pals or shimmer buddies, im not too sure yet. The problem with these toys is they are highly explosive due to their easily overheated lightbulbs and their new buggy tech, this proves to be a problem later. The children, including Neil (without permission from his dad, he just assumes hes playing with his little friends) are tested and examined to ensure the toys are just like them, st this point they arent aware theyre getting toys based on them. With Neil also now having files hes later mistaken as just another orphan.

Max, despite being embarrassed by the gesture actually likes his toy, feeling grateful to david, nikki loves hers, its just like her, excitable, adventurous- dumb.. but shes too naive to realize its portrayed as dumb. Neil hates his, he doesnt like that it has traits hes insecure about.

After the in company success of the toys among the orphans the company decides to make living toys of these charavters- and what better candidates better than the kids theyre based on? It takes a bit until theyre ready to be preformed on, and during this time max grows increasingly anxious and aggresive from all the tests and the crewpy way the scientists talk about gim, more often being sent to david and talking to him about how he knows what theyre gonna do to him and how scared he is. David however doesnt beleive him and continues to reassure the increasingly anxious boy that they wouldn't do anything bad to him and that theres no reason to worry.

Despite this, david cant get the boy off his mind and considers adopting him, then he wouldn't have to worry and he'd have someone who loves him. Unfortunately before this happens davids informed that the boy recently passed away due to the explosive oversight in the creation of the toys. This deeply upsets david. Soon all the remaining toys of this line are confiscated, set to be fixed, however both Neil and Nikki also disapear around this point, later all 3 are experimented on.

(in this au i really want david to be the player because he'd see all the stuff he was oblivious to and be horrified he was so accepting to it all, especially when confronted by the max toy)
