Taang Week 2020, Day 2: Modern AU

[Transcription of the speech bubbles, if you can’t read my handwriting, right under the cut:

First Picture: 1st Panel: Zuko: Are you sure you’re gonna be alright? Aang: Yes.

2nd Panel: Zuko: I’ll be gone for maybe an hour. Aang: Okay. Zuko: Just picking up Katara. Aang: We know. Zuko: Sokka and Suki will- Aang: Zuko!

3rd Panel: Aang: You have nothing to worry about. We got this! I’m very good  with kids, and Toph is very good at saying ‘No’- Toph: He’s got the impulse control of a toddler. Aang: -so we’ll see you in an hour. Little Iroh: Bye, Daddy.

Second Picture: 1st Panel: Approximately 17 Minutes Later 

2nd Panel: Aang: I regret all of my choices – my back hurts. 

3rd Panel: Toph: We’re having fun over here. Iroh, you’re being careful with the cane, right? Little Iroh: Sure, Auntie Toph. Toph: See? Everything’s going swimmingly. We’re gonna have one of these ourselves soon, so this is at least good practice. [The ‘is’ is missing and I hate myself for only catching that now.]

Third Picture: 1st Panel: Aang: ... what?

3rd Panel:  CRASH!

4th Panel: Toph: What was that? Little Iroh: … nuffin’. Toph: Don’t lie to me, Iroh. Little Iroh: I’m not! Toph: Better not have been your Grandpa’s weird monkey. Little Iroh: It wasn’t!

5th Panel: Aang: Did she just- Did you just say you’re pregnant? Toph: I trusted you, man. Aang: Toph? Little Iroh: Uncle Aang!]

I always see a lot of Zuko in parkas and Katara as Fire Lady, and that’s all very nice; I have absolutely nothing against Zutara. But sometimes, it feels like it’s everywhere, and that can get a bit annoying. May just be my ... selective perception, idk.

Anyway, that minor annoyance is the reason for Kyoshi Island Sokka, who will be followed up by Water Tribe Suki, Earth Kingdom Aang and Air Nomad Toph over the next few days, because Taang’s my OTP and Sukka deserves more love. Though ... it’s only really implied here, I guess. Must draw something cute for them some day.

“No! No, of course not…” She turned back to the anon. “That’s none of your business anyway!”
