tl;dr A longtime career opera singer threw it all away to become an actor in LA at 46.
Hi. So I was an opera singer for 20 years. Like, professionally. It was my principal means of living during that 20 years.
Then the pandemic hit.
For reasons I don’t want to dive into here, I decided to leave opera singing as a means of living. I had done a lot with it, and I had just moved to LA, which has a surprisingly small market.
So I took an improv class.
Objectively, I wasn’t good at it and it was hard.
But I loved it. So I kept doing it.
This led me to doing background work, which led me to take acting classes.
I had done some acting study before. Opera singers have to act, after all. But it was for the stage. Much different than on-camera techniques.
Now, I’m booking things. In the year I’ve been seriously pursuing acting, I managed to book 2 commercials, a lead in a short film, an industrial project, and a small role in an independent comedy feature.
