I wish I knew where to begin speaking about Ferguson's decision to not indict the police officer who murdered Michael Brown. I'm upset and appalled at "our" system once again .. but however, I'm not surprised .
I think I'm more surprised at the reactions of my own people. MEANING people of my generation. This morning I went on Twitter to find that people are annoyed and bothered by the constant talk of the Ferguson decision on social media ..
OH . I'm sorry that people are actually speaking about something other than "relationship goals" or Kim Kardashian "breaking the internet" or how the Knicks "ain't shit" this season. This simply goes to show that people are not understanding the severity of this case.
A young black man was shot SEVERAL times and murdered in cold blood . How could this NOT bother you? What some of you don't realize is that this could have been you, your brother, your father, your cousin, and scariest of all .. this could possibly be your son.
Is this what it's going to be like ? raising a man of color in America? Wanting to raise a king and all I'm doing is raising a future target?
For all of you who don't want to believe it, believe it. It's right in front of our faces. And for all of you who are tired about hearing others complain about racism .. imagine those who are living it every single day. So Yes, lets play the race card .. because this is well enough about race. Don't think so ?
a 16yr black male is going to jail for shooting a police dog during a burglary . He's getting 23yrs in prison . Fair enough u think right ? He committed a crime .. BUT Officer Wilson, who shot Brown 6x and killed him is walking away ..
A 16yr old white male, steals his parents car .. extremely intoxicated and kills 4 other people. What was his sentence? 10 years probation because his district attorney claims his parents never taught him right from wrong.
I could obviously go on all day about this but if these aren't tall tale signs of the injustices in "our system" then I don't know what is.
So Yes, I refused to take part in Black Friday. & I will be in Union Square during the rally. For all of you who are saying "it isn't going to work" that's fine . But unlike some of you I want to see change and I'll at least make an attempt instead of sitting on my ass with my phone tweeting about how angry I am.
I hope that some of you start waking up and take a look at the world around you . A system that was not built for us cannot protect us . We have to be the change we want to see. I disagree with the riots and violence, but I do agree that a change needs to be made. It starts with us . The decisions we make today will affect us years from now ..
& i don't know about any of you .. but years from now I don't want to have to see my son's name as a national headline .
To the friends and family of Michael Brown .. may God give you peace .
