Home: I'll write our characters living together.
It was an interesting experience living with Zuko. It wasn't like they were dating or anything romantic like that, but they did live together. They didn't know how long they would have to endure each other, but they dealt with it all the same.
As more days went by, the less it felt like a hassle. They slowly got to know each other better. They learned about their likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. Of course, they had gotten into some fights over whose turn it was to do laundry, or clean the kitchen, or make dinner. They eventually set up a schedule and the fighting ceased. It was… good.
It even got to the point where they would ask each other on advice about their significant others. For Suki, it was about Sokka, and for Zuko, Mai. It was a little hard for Suki to give advice on Mai when they rarely hung out, but she did her best. Zuko at least had to deal with Sokka before, when they rescued her from the Boiling Rock and before then. There were just some things about the opposite sex that they needed each other’s help in understanding. And that’s what they were there for.
Suki remembered one of their conversations way back when. It had been about Sokka and why it seemed to take a miracle for him to realize that sometimes she just wanted to cuddle with him and watch the stars. It was as if he needed to be doing something physical to keep from staying still with her. When she tried to snuggle with him at the beach, he would automatically get up and start walking along the sand. She didn’t mind the activity, but sometimes she just wanted to relax and not move around so much.
“Zuko, why do you think he does that? I don’t get it.” She asked her roommate one night when they were both eating dinner. He already knew what was going on, so she didn’t need to explain what she meant. They were getting to that point in their friendship where they knew what the other one was asking about or what they were referring to.
“While I don’t know the exact reason, it could be because he’s worried about your cuddling evolving into something… more.” Zuko said hesitantly. Sometimes he would react the same way when it came to Mai, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to admit it to Suki just yet. Maybe later, but not tonight.
“Or it could be that he is honestly clueless about your intentions. Have you ever told him how you feel when he does this?” Zuko inquired. “Well, no I haven’t. I figured he would want to cuddle with me, just the two of us. Isn’t that what couples do?” Suki sighed. Maybe she would have to talk with Sokka about it.
“Let me know how it goes the next time. I think you guys should talk about it, just so there isn’t any miscommunication.” Zuko said. He stood up to grab her plate and went to wash the dishes. It was his night to clean up since Suki made dinner. “Thanks” she spoke softly as he took her plate from her hands. She sighed. It was a long day. They both needed to rest, and they would be able to do that if they worked together to clean up. “Here, I’ll help.” She walked towards the kitchen and took a rag to dry the dishes that he washed. They were done within minutes.
“Goodnight Zuko. Thanks for the talk.” She said as she walked towards her room. She briefly heard an agreeing grunt come from him before leaving. As she reached her room, she was thankful that she had him for a roommate. Even though they faced some hard times in the beginning, every day got better and better.
It was nice.
