VIRAT CELEBRATION
What a VIRAAAAT name this young man has created within such a short span of time. What a wonderful sportsman he has become today. Right from being the young short-tempered brute till the matured Captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli has come a long way.
I still remember his under19 world cup victory and the plump face with naughtiness written all over it. Then I also remember Sunny Gavaskar’s comments about his over-aggressive behaviour during the early IPL seasons. The little master said that if this young man keeps behaving this way then the future will never be of good worth. But if he can improve this then surely he will be one of the greatest players in the history of this game.
Since those days, we have been witness to the most brilliant development of a character – as a sportsman, as a team-leader and more important as an individual. There has not been a single series of matches where he has played and not scored runs. His stature has reached the peak of gigantism and yet this young man is the same ‘Delhi ka Chhora’ at heart. And the fitness which he maintains is sheer magical.
Personally I feel the change or rather improvement he has shown in his game is purely because of the transformation of his ill-temper into an aggressive yet humble attitude. He is very different from many other sportsmen not due to his centuries or winnings, but the way he leads the team by his own example. And what a perfect partner he been gifted with – ANUSHKA Sharma, oh what a beautiful couple you both look together. God bless you both.
Recently he has also begun with a wonderful venture called the Virat Kohli Foundation through which budding talents in not only cricket but other sports too will receive scholarships for advanced level training in their respective games. The NGO along with the Goenka Group has successfully organized the Indian Sports Honours to recognize and honour Indian athletes for their exceptional performances, sportsmanship and spirit of sports through a felicitation ceremony in an unprecedented manner.
Today as he turns 32, we all can surely say Virat Kohli has become an icon for the youth. He has become a star which can never fade away. Therefore on behalf of every heart that beats for the run-machine, the Indian captain, I wish a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the man with a golden heart, our very own Virat Kohli.
