About: I first got into Supernatural about a year and a half ago after I saw a fan video for the Cut & Run fandom that used Dean and Sam as the main characters. I ended up marathoning the first 18 episodes in one day and I’ve been involved in the fandom ever since. I already knew about Cas from tumblr but I wasn’t sure how I felt about a new character coming into the show. I finally got to Lazarus Rising and, well, Cas makes it easy to love him. Free to Be You and Me and The End made me really start shipping Dean and Cas. I loved their interaction and how they grew to be friends.
Destiel Fanfic Highlights: Like a Thrift Store Jacket, Still Good But Used [NC-17, 5,700 word count]
Dean is a natural bottom, loves to take it up the ass like no one's business. Problem is, he's hung like a horse, or at least big enough he pings every guy's secret size kink. So, Dean ends up topping even though that's not what he wants. Enter Castiel.
Like a Thrift Store Jacket, Still Good But Used by triedunture: I loved how in-character Dean was in this. Dean has had to be strong his entire life and even with Cas right there with him, knowing his thoughts and his true self, Dean still fights and still can’t admit what he really wants. Cas is patient with him and understands why Dean is the way he is. I just loved how Cas took care of Dean, knew exactly what Dean wanted and gave it to him. Penguin Verse [M, 4,200 word count]
Dean is a zoo Penguin. Castiel is the new Penguin from the actual real ocean.
Penguin Verse by cloudyjenn: Dean and Cas are penguins at the zoo. I know, I know. But this is my fluff remedy for the most angsty fics. It is just so cute and adorable! Dean and Cas know they’re different from other penguins but that doesn’t stop them from trying to build a nest together and raise an egg. 12 Steps [NC-17, 33,000 word count]
The 12 Steps tell you to keep it simple, but Dean Winchester has never been good at keeping anything simple. So, with the help and support of the core people in his life he’s giving sobriety his best shot, which even on a good day is a struggle. But as he works at it he makes progress and starts to rediscover himself, and maybe find love with the new guy next door.
12 Steps by gedry: This is an AU but it’s still one of those most realistic Dean’s I’ve seen. What I love about this fic is that Dean is finally forced to face, and deal with, all of his problems. He has to acknowledge his insecurities and make the necessary steps to overcome them. The fic focuses on Dean healing and finally finding happiness. It’s one of my all time favs.
