In Limerence, Jacob Alon (2025)
I don’t want to show off or anything but also I do – 2026 was the first time I was chosen to be a critic in the 2026 BRIT Awards Critics Choice Award. While I did not vote for In Limerence or Jacob Alon(the eventual winner) I absolutely should have, meticulously constructed folk of the Lenker school with elegant prose and unforced power and gorgeous space. Good on the other critics, eh. And no, I cannot remember who I voted for. Jerskin Fendrix probably.
Pick: ‘Of Amber’
Going through the Mercury Prize shortlist for radio reasons. Holy damn that Jacob Alon album is beautiful. A proper folk pop album. No bells, no whistles. Just beautiful acoustic fingerpicked guitars and a gentle and clear voice. With something new to say. Incredible.
