I peak my head out from under the covers, she’s chewing some snack while standing beside me in bed. “Do you remember chia pets?” What the fuck, “yeah??” She squats down next to me, soft in tone and sorry for intruding on my trying to fall asleep. She looks like a turtle on its back, asking about chia pets all while eating something I’m sure now was yogurt with granola in it.
