The world was very different for Raoul than it was for anyone he met (not that many worlds were the same. in fact, none of them were), but he never minded that. It wasn’t his job to mind that. His job was to mind the In-Between. Guide people through it. Get them to where they ought to be. So, he stayed in the In-Between, getting people to the right doors. The ones they belonged to. He’d never known anything different but it never mattered because it was what Raoul had come to enjoy.
He was waiting nearby when a new person walked through one of the doors, ready to help her get where she ought to be. “Hello there.” He said, glancing behind her as her door shut, just a slight glimpse into a world he’d seen a few others get Guided to.
