On Friday, September 28, we will begin the next assignment: the Mad Men Project.
Here is a short description (I will give you a longer one on Monday):
Your task is to choose an existing consumer product (apart from the Apple brand) and develop, as a group, a strong, persuasive, creative advertisement. Your advertisement will be a 30-second, 1-minute, or 2-minute television commercial or infomercial. You will present your commercial to the class, by, first, pitching your advertisement and, then, performing a rhetorical analysis of your own commercial. Your individual essay will be an extension of this latter portion of the presentation, as you will analyze the way in which your advertisement employs rhetoric to convince your audience to buy your product. This project will have two components with two separate grades: a group presentation of 4-5 minutes, and an individual essay of 3-4 pages.
Group #1: Samantha Hathaway, Joseph Slisz, Philip Tam, Blane Hodge Jr., Samuel Torchia
Group #2: Talia Putrino, Kendall Spaulding, Muhammad Hussain, Peter Giancarlo
Group #3: Mabel Henriquez, Jeffrey Abreu, Christopher Musso, Colin Trinh
Group #4: Rhonda Chamberlin, Sally Huang, Shane Bachellor, Nicholas Mambretti, Christopher Buerkle
Group #5: Alice Healy, Bolade Majekodunmi, Albert Mccoy, Naeem Rigaud, Omar David
On Friday, I will give you 15 or so minutes to get into your groups, and begin working on this project. You are to (i) pick a product that they will advertise and (ii) begin brainstorming about what their ad will look like. PLEASE USE YOUR IN-CLASS TIME WISELY! THE BETTER WORK YOU DO IN-CLASS THE LESS TIME YOU WILL HAVE TO MEET OUTSIDE OF CLASS. As a group, you will present your ad to the class on Friday, October 19th, so you should come up with a schedule as to when you will meet outside of class, so your group's ad ready on time. Also, be sure to exchange emails, so you can contact one another.
