oo, more.
11 - If I could remake one movie properly? There are a lot of sentimental choices, but I’d be happy with completely redoing Pacific Rim 2. I’d keep John Boyega as Pentecost’s son but rework his character and lose this weird Instagram vibe he had. Mako Mori would have a full arc where she becomes not only a mentor to Boyega but, fulfilling the memory of Stacker Pentecost, she’d be integral to bringing new international jaegers together to face a resurging kaiju threat. Newt and Herman would have a similar role in how that threat builds as the film, but Newt would have far more agency and pushback in how he faces it and their friendship would save them both and remind them that they can do almost anything together.
and god damn it, I’d do more with the kaiju worldbuilding itself, getting Del Toro back with his notes on anything to do with them, and maybe even hinting that there are worse things out there than the overlords sending the kaiju against Earth.
91 - What’s a lyric that I hate? - A couple of years ago we went to visit family for the holidays, turned on the local radio which is eternally stuck in the ‘90s, and heard a song by Theory of a Deadman called ‘The Bitch Came Back,’ which is a whole-song riff on the cat came back the very next day, thought he was a goner. only now it’s one of the most misogynistic songs I have ever heard in my goddamn life. I’m not going to reprint any more of the lyrics here for my own sanity, but this song came close to inciting actual violence inside my soul.
brace yourself if you look it up.
it fucking blows.
I’m still mad about that song and I’ve only heard it once.
98 - What kind of videos do I primarily watch on Youtube? - The main purpose of Youtube for me is to stream music for me to exercise or write to, because I keep forgetting to sign up for Spotify. So it’s usually movie or position music groups like Audiomachine and Two Steps From Hell, the occasional John Carpenter synth-track, or stuff I like to bike to, which can be literally anything from Joe Hisashi’s Ghibli soundtracks to Disturbed songs.
and also sometimes I watch blooper reels.
I highly recommend the Hot Fuzz bloopers.
