The drooping, crimson tassel-like racemes of tiny flowers of Amaranthus caudatus (love-lies-bleeding, chenile plant, Inca wheat, lady's riding whip, velvet flower, cat tail, tassel flower) are at their most dramatic at the end of summer and early autumn. This short-lived frost-tender plant is popular in summer bedding displays and for containers.

The annual Amaranthus caudatus (love-lies-bleeding, careless, chenile plant, floramor, Inca wheat, lady's riding whip, velvet flower, cat tail, tassel flower) by late autumn has created erect or drooping, tassel-like racemes of tiny flowers. They make a dramatic seasonal addition to a border and the flowers can be used for fresh or dried arrangements. The birds enjoy eating the seedheads.
