And the fact was, Metis had to die. He was less a leader and more a liability. But, that was what happened when you chose Magicians to lead anything. She nodded to herself, having reached the study and heard him talking to someone.
She waited until that someone, one of theirs, came out before entering the study with a smile.
“Hello darling.” She leaned against the wall, watching him.
“I know.” She couldn’t hesitate, had to do this now. So she lunged. And nearly got there. Except, Metis’s power laid in fire. If she had kept him alive and took Winter, she’d have a perfect set. But Metis saw her coming or something, and just pushed a blast of fire at her.
One that scalded her skin, but never left a mark in the end. She took it until she got to him, pinning him to the chair.
“I’m sorry, darling. But you’re a liability now, and you know what’s done to liabilities.”
He paused. And then smiled, a smile of pride, one she rarely saw. “That’s my girl.”
That’s my girl. His last words before she bit down into his throat, dragging her teeth down and ripping the vein open. She made another cut to an artery in his leg and pulled back. She stood there, never taking her eyes off of him until he stopped bleeding.
She hid the body. Took it far enough away that no one would find him, and surely no one would look after a bit.
