Among all the neck-high shit we're collectively wading through, I really like the updated gender policy from WFTDA (the women's roller derby governing body):
"Any individual of a Marginalized Gender, regardless of presentation or the gender they were assigned at birth, is welcomed and encouraged to participate in the WFTDA"
There are many needles to thread when trying to come up with a gender policy:
people who aren't cis men need our own space sometimes
trans women are women
trans men and non-binary folks are not defective women
cis women have a lot in common with trans and non-binary folks in that none of us fit well in or meet the standards of the patriarchy and we are all vulnerable to its violence and discrimination
kinda sucks if you're getting a lot of support from women's spaces if you have to lose that when you realise you aren't one
Broadly speaking, I'm happy with "marginalised genders" as a way to manage all those. Anything we come up with isn't gonna be perfect. This feels like a good-faith effort.
Also I'm happy with a governing body that takes one look at Trump and goes "fuck you" *inclusivity intensifies*
