Nothing is "always," my dear. Except the greater truths, one of which is that power begets politics, and politics are more dangerous than war because there are fewer rules.

anyway I will never not shill for the Inda Quartet. Inda Quartet my beloved
my first tries at inda!!
Hadand: I became queen by standing between a usurper and a usurped throne, and cutting off the bastard’s hand.
Danet: I became queen by using my forensic accounting skills
gods that line about inda where he grew up with “love like air” coming naturally in and out of him with every breath, contrasted with these lines from tau about evred “knows nothing about affection, because the only person who gave him any was you, then you stopped” and “he has no defense against tenderness, just a lifelong dearth of it” and just 😢
gay. ass. bitch.
Inda shook his head. “I won’t.” Tanrid took a step toward him, mouth thin, eyes dangerous. “It’s our honor at stake.” “Honor,” Inda croaked, “requires me to stand to the truth. Dogpiss died.” He gulped on a sob. “And it was not. My. Fault. I. Will. Not. Take. The. Blame.” ... “...Yet. I promise you, Inda, on my honor, on my soul, you will get justice.” ... Sponge’s arms closed round him, and held him, in compassionate, loving silence while he slept.
- Inda, book 1
“Yes.” Inda’s voice was so low, and tired. “Yes, Evred, I’ll stand up against the wall. Or if you’re going to flay me at the post, then do it. I won’t argue. I know what I did. Please. Just do it.” “I do not want to do it,” Evred retorted with barely suppressed violence.
- Treason’s Shore, book 4
tau makes an observation about fox, saying he doesn’t just want inda’s friendship or trust but to be inda. fox’s jealousy of inda stems from inda’s ability to command battles whereas fox can’t see that whole picture. it’s fun, then, that the norsunder magic allowing for one to see memories/scenes/events through the eyes and mind of another person is given to fox for the explicit purpose of uncovering the whole of inda’s story in as much accuracy of emotion and truth as is possible. fox gets to sit in inda’s mind and experience alllllllllll that trauma up close and personal 🥰🥰 and realize: not even inda knows what the fuck is going on his brain just kinda Does That sometimes when it’s not yelling at him
