Happy Sunday Fam. Picture Storytime We love sharing. This is Mae Bell, Mary Bell, daughter of Rebecca Thompson and Willie Joe Bell. You know her now as Meara, our Minster Server. Meara is so great that she returned on her same birthday. This is just one of the many reasons we have to be thankful for. It is through her second marriage to James Graham that our living Matriarch Mrs. Molly @maxseenit came who is the 5th great granddaughter of John Chavis. Many “Blacks” fougt in the American Revolution and they were not forced to do so. They volunteered to defend their birthright. My 6th Great Grandfather, John Chavis was a soldier in the American Revolution because his father and grandfather’s were some of the largest land owners in America prior to the revolutionary war. He was the first Black minister ordained in the Presbytarian church, attended Princeton University and was a well known teacher and owned a Latin School where he taught all ethnicities including the Wight gentry. In the Granville County branch of the Chavis family the oldest relatives are 10 generations to mine. Gibrea Chavis was a Cherokee Indian (also listed as a Mulatto) that migrated from Mecklenburg County, Virginia. His brother, William Chavis however is classified as a Negro in the census. Since the status of the child is the status of the mother and the census records are based off of observation, it indicates that their mother must have been dark hued Aboriginal American or an African or misnomered as such. The Chavises are listed as the earliest inhabitants and were the first mixed breeds to be classified as Free Persons in Granville, County, North Carolina. My Grandmother, Florence Luticia Graham and her siblings attended the school named after him in North Carolina. She was her Class Valedictorian. We naturally give thanks for the greatness that precedes us and that is us. This energy is what you experience every-time you bless us with your patronage. We thank you for your blessings. Without you we would not be us. - @abundancechild #thisisourland #dropsquadkitchen #mearathegreat #veganthanksgiving #indelaware #vegandelaware #delawarevegan #igdelaware (at Drop Squad Kitchen) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWhzduuLGSP/?utm_medium=tumblr
