A Tutorial on How to Make Gif/Edit Indexes for Your Blog
Someone asked me how I set up the page for my edits on my blog, and I figured it would be easier to explain in a post with pictures. And maybe other people will find it helpful as well.
So when you click on the "My Edits" or "My Gifs" links on my blog, you see something like this:
To start, you want to into the Customize page on your blog. Scroll down to where you see "+ Add a page". Click on it.
You'll see something like this.
Where it says your url, type in "myedits" or "mygifs". This will be the url for the index page. Also write in what you want the page title to be. This is what mine looks like:
Next, you need to make sure you have your posts tagged in a way that you can link to the tags and be able to find the posts you want. I have all of my edits tagged as "my edits", and that is helpful if I want to view ALL of my edits. But if I want to categorize them and be able to just view my Supernatural edits or just look at my David Tennant edits, I need to make sure I tag them very specifically.
For example, I have tagged all of my Supernatural edits as "spnedits". All of my David Tennant edits are tagged "dt edit", and my Noel Fielding edits are tagged as "noeledit". (Similarly, my gif tags are "mygifs:spn, mygifs:dt, mygifs:dw, etc). NOTE: Don't tag things with dashes - in them, or it won't work.
In the box to edit the "My Edits" page, I made a bulleted list of the different categories - everything I had specific tags for.
After you've typed out your list, highlight each line at a time and click the weird-looking slanted 8 button to make it into a link.
Where it says "link url" you want type in "/tagged/whatever the tag is". Do this for everything on the list.
Update preview and then save the page.
You will now be able to find the page at the url you specified when you made the page - for me it's green-circles.tumblr.com/myedits. Use that url to link to when you want to link to your edits. I have mine on my sidebar but you can put it wherever you want.
The steps above are also how I did a tag index of my entire blog, which you can see at "green-circles.tumblr.com/tags". You just have to make sure you're consistently tagging everything correctly and specifically. But it makes things much easier to find!
